Please retweet and share if you support my and others' vaccine injury recoveries. Image
My fiancé and I were supposed to get married in July 2022. Given the first 2 vaccine mandates, we figured that we had no choice but to keep on taking the boosters in order to be able to travel for our honeymoon / have liberties to go to stores etc.
We decided to take the 3rd @moderna_tx booster anticipating that perhaps it would also be mandated by the #Canadian #government.

A golden oldie for this weeks repost:

It’s difficult trusting the process and accepting that success is earned over prolonged periods of consistency.

When we have bad sessions or bad weeks, we can often let it affect us.

1/
We double down on training, play catch up with missed sessions, add extra onto sessions which weren’t planned for, and this can lead to performance being affected even more or worst case, injury.

2/
When injured, a bad day or weeks rehab can make the wheels fall off and we sabotage ourselves even more.

If you’ve had a bad week or a bad day, or progress simply hasnt been as fast as you wished it was, reflect on the last month, last 6 weeks and look for the

Six reasons to assess the cranial nerves in the MSK clinic.

A thread 🧵

Reason 1.
You assess and manage patients with neck pain/ headache/orofacial symptoms
#Physio #Physiotherapy #PhysicalTherapy
Reason 2.
You routinely assess neurological function when you encounter
1. Distal symptoms in the upper limb
2. Distal symptoms in the lower limb
It is logical therefore to do the same when it comes to the neck/head/face
Reason 3.
You will see patients who complain of post trauma/insidious onset dizziness/nausea/visual disturbances
... which may or may not be linked to CN dysfunction.
CN testing should form part of your routine risk assessment. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34182898/

6 reasons to take #BloodPressure in the MSK physiotherapy clinic.

A thread to ponder over Easter 🧵

#Haemodynamics #Physio #PhysicalTherapy #Hypertension

1/
Reason 1.

Vital signs tell you lots about the patient’s general health.

The 2 minutes it takes to check someone’s blood pressure may impact directly on your clinical reasoning and subsequent management.

2/
Reason 2.

High blood pressure is generally asymptomatic, so you wouldn’t know if the person sitting in front of you might be hypertensive.

... Unless you take the time to check.

Different ages, backgrounds, circumstances, occupations.

Persistent pain affects people right across society.

I was asked a brilliant Q today in an online chat with some newly qualified coaches.

What’s the key to success in endurance sports??

A thread……

1/11

#ukrunchat #uktrichat #success #endurance #physio
It didn’t take me long to answer to be honest, I think it’s the same secret for all sports (and life in general!)

the key is simply to be consistent over a prolonged period - sustained / maintained consistency.

2/11
The successful athletes, and by that I mean relative success to the individual, not necessarily podium finishes per se, is that they are world class at doing the basics, rather than being basic at the world class things.

Just thought I’d share this study again in response to a patients Q earlier today regarding running in one shoe only vs rotating multiple pairs.

I’m a big fan of rotating between multiple “different” types of shoes to “ spread the load”.

1/4 #ukrunchat #run #Shoes #physio
We can’t remove forces and physics but we can be smart with them.

It’s a strategy I use myself.

Of course there are runners who use one pair and don’t get injured as well, there’s far more to this puzzle than simply changing shoes as I talk about often,

2/4
but maybe, for some, it’s something to think about trying alongside appropriate training and recovery.

It’s a far from perfect paper, as many are, and other confounders may apply but it’s a tactic some may wish to apply.

Covid-19 Linked To Life-Threatening Blood Clots in ARTERIES of Lower Extremities

"Awareness of lower limb arterial thrombosis as a possible complication of COVID-19 is important for all providers who take care of these patients” #Physio #PhysicalTherapy cathlabdigest.com/content/covid-…
#Physio #FCP ‘s
Time to brush up on your haemodynamics ✅

"We found that arterial thrombosis associated with COVID-19 infection was characterized by dire outcomes, namely strikingly increased rates of amputation and death, which in our series were 25% and 38%, respectively,"
Be aware that arterial complications will likely present as PAIN in the early stages.

There may be an exercise induced component.

That may be down to deconditioning or fatigue OR it may be due to underlying pathology.

So, a thread about fixing #flatfeet in kids here: footgearlab.com/exercises-to-c…
Let's unpack why there is a just enough truth to suck parents in, but not enough to be of value.

Firstly: Author quals. Sure, don't have to be qualified, this author is content ed (no health prof input)
/Just the title alone should ring warning bells.
If exercises were all it took to FIX foot posture, why doesn't everyone have feet with lovely arches from doing 20 simple things?
Let's also suck parents in with a cute photo, & guilt them into doing something that they'll fail.
/First words are the next issue:
Flat feet is a condition...um nope. Flat feet are an appearance. Millions of people, adults & children from all races, weights, tall, short, heavier & skinnier can have flat feet.
It's an appearance and no more a condition than blue eyes.

Thinking of taking your loved one out of #longtermcare during the #covid19 ? There is *no easy answer*. But here are few things to think about:
1) Do they need to be transferred (bed / toilet / shower) and how would you do that?
2) Do they need a Hoyer lift? (thread continues)
3) Do you have the medications and expertise to provide the medical care?
4) Are you in danger of infecting other vulnerable members of your household?
5) How will you support them if they have dementia?
6) Do you have knowledge on how to support #incontinence & the products?
7) Who will you call if they get sicker either with #Covid19 or their underlying #health issues?
8) are they going to lose their #placement in the #nursinghome (in Ontario - the answer would be yes)
9) who else in your home needs care?
10) how will you support #socialengagement?

#Mindfulness OR #McMindfulness ?

#Sociology

“Stress has been pathologised and privatised, and the burden of managing it outsourced to individuals. Hence the pedlars of mindfulness step in to save the day.”
“If we are unhappy about being unemployed, losing our health insurance, and seeing our children incur massive debt through college loans, it is our responsibility to learn to be more mindful.”
“This has come about partly because proponents of mindfulness believe that the practice is apolitical, and so the avoidance of moral inquiry and the reluctance to consider a vision of the social good are intertwined.”

This is an interesting paper ... and the authors highlight involvement of the ICA.

BUT ... the focus on Cervical arterial dissection (CAD) ONLY is restrictive.

There is much more to risk assessment in the cervical spine than dissection. 🔎
Cervical arterial dysfunction (CAD)however, is a term that covers all arteries & all pathologies.

Confused ...?

It is confusing ...

I try to shed some light on the topic and the many acronyms here @TrustmePhysio 👀👇👇👇👇

youtube.com/channel/UC9lb2…
Perhaps the use of the term CADf might help reduce the confusion...?
