As #PitchWars is ending, I just wanted to do a master-list of all the mentorship programs that are out there. If you know of another one, please feel free to tell me and I'll add it onto the thread.
Thank you to @AngelDiZhang for the idea! I'll steal @molly_katheryn and @gigigriffis's lists as they're already there (as part of WTMP's Open Inbox). I also saw @ByGeorgeJreije's list! He's addicted to mentoring so he knows what he's talking about.
Let's start with my own program to get it out the way--WTMP! @writeteammentor is a mentorship program focused on community and support with a biennial mentorship program. It will return in 2023. bit.ly/3qQbOqU

As a former #PitchWars MD and current Board member, I've had first hand look at mistakes folks make when submitting. So figured I'd do a Do's and Don'ts thread that I can add to as we lead up to sub window opening on 12:01 a.m. ET on Sunday. Here we go...
#pitchwars Don't: Submit right away. I get peace of mind, but there's no benefit otherwise. Mentors can't even read their subs until the window is closed. And they'll read all subs. If anything submitting early crowds the server, giving us behind the scenes folks anxiety. 😛
Do: Read this lovely How to Prepare Your #PitchWars Submission post that Sarah (also a former MD and current board member) created: pitchwars.org/how-to-prepare…

Once you've finished reading, read it again! lol

In light of #PitchWars season, and the fact I've read SO MANY queries over the past several years, I thought I'd share some advice on queries for anyone setting off into the unforgiving trenches of publishing (whether for your first book or tenth!) (THREAD 👇)
First, the usual caveat: every book is different, so every query is unique, and what works for some stories won't work for others. Take what's useful and leave the rest (for this and all writing advice).
A second caveat: ALWAYS follow an agent's submission guidelines! Queries aren't just to get an agent's interest, they're also a test to see what kind of client you'll make, and following guidelines is the lowest bar you have to clear, so don't trip over it by ignoring guidelines

because #pitchwars is in the air, here's a threaded list of things I highly recommend doing when you have an agent offer!
1. prep for the call by having a list of questions handy. there many good resources out on the web if you google "what to ask during a literary agent call" and this @WritersParty one is pretty comprehensive writersblockpartyblog.com/2018/02/06/que…
remember it's better to ask the thornier questions now rather than later. for example, if manuscript turnaround is important to you, ask about it before you enter the partnership. practices definitely change with time, but it's still good to get that initial gauge

Randomly decided to screenshot the Submissions form just so you can get a sense of what it looks like. Key thing is to make sure all your info is correct because one you hit submit, we can't make any changes for you. #pitchwars

First, you'll select your age category.
It'll take you to the form, where everything is listed on one page. It starts off pretty easy with your name and email address. It's key that you provide the right email addy. #pitchwars
Twitter handle and website are optional but I strongly suggest you include this info if you have it. Your future mentor will want to know more about you. #pitchwars

Should we talk about a craft thing today, #pitchwars? Perhaps about your protagonist's central misbelief?

This is one of my favorite things to consider when writing, and learning about it has transformed my writing.
I won't put this whole thread under the #pitchwars hashtag, so if you want to follow along, open this tweet!

This will all be on misbelief and how it connects with character arc, plot, and theme <3
A character's misbelief can also be known as their "flaw" or their "inner issue" or their "incorrect personal theme", but they all boil down to the same thing.
