1. Check out what your death in service benefits from work are, & bear in mind that retirement on health grounds may be a better financial option if terminally ill. I discovered this in the final days of Ben's life & I really don't recommend that timing.

2. Do not rely on your death in service benefits from work! You need private life insurance too - just in case you lose your job/change jobs and forget about it.

I've heard from a handful of people who sorted their wills out over the weekend, which is super gratifying! If you haven't done it yet - please add it to your to-do list for this week - it really doesn't take very long & it makes a HUGE difference.

Next step is to get life insurance. Insurance companies have such a hard time selling it because people just don't want to think about it, and people don't think it will happen to them.

In fact, we were encouraged to get critical illness insurance by an IFA about 6 months before @Ben_Collen was diagnosed with terminal cancer, but we decided it was too unlikely. We would have spent £160 on buying a £250k payout had we gone ahead!
