MLS has given 6.3% of available minutes in 2020 to players currently 20 years old or younger.

Here's where that stacks up against a few of the development powerhouses in Europe (plus Mexico).

Eredivisie 🇳🇱 12.7%
Ligue 1 🇫🇷 11.9%
Bundesliga 🇩🇪 7.6%
MLS 🇺🇸🇨🇦 6.3%
Liga MX 🇲🇽 5.9% Image
MLS is MUCH further along than it was just a few years ago in this area and are further ahead than plenty of European leagues, but this shows there's still a little ways to go to match the standard.

Also, these are weird data sizes so take it with a grain of salt.
Think of the amount of teenagers playing in MLS right now.. then double that. That's what it would look like to be on the #PlayYourKids level of the Eredivisie.

It's trending in that direction is the good news.

Also, Brazil's numbers would probably be around 15%.

2019 #PlayYourKids MIDTERM REPORT

There’s been a lot of talk about young domestic players in MLS getting more playing opportunities in recent years, especially in light of the US failing to qualify for the 2018 World Cup. So I decided to look into it.
This is primarily looking into U20 and U17 players, which is most commonly defined by a player’s birth year.

A large portion of this data comes from @fbref, with supplemental information from transfermarkt.
So far, U20 Americans and Canadians in MLS have played 12,270 minutes in the league. With 211 of 408 games completed, that means they’re on pace to play 23,726 minutes, which would be an MLS record since the advent of the Homegrown Player Rule in 2008.
