sunday coffee god and all the rest of it

i sit sipping coffee by the window in the kitchen
as the procession of the faithful summoned by sunday bells begins
car after car carrying people dressed up for god and each other
rolling by on the way to whatever form of worship soothes their souls
but i an impenitent unbeliever reject the credulity called faith
that’s been fractured and reshaped into innumerable incarnations
and whether or not there’s a judgmental old man in the sky
remain unworried about my final disposition

i haven’t been good enough to deserve heaven nor bad enough to deserve hell
so if he exists i’ll be lounging in some nebulous corner of the universe

It's been 2 years since you passed away and the void in my heart is still empty and aching. Just wrote out few lines on you to reminisce those memories with you and help me grieve better..
An ode to My Father

You never said I'm leaving
You never said goodbye .
You were gone before
Only god knew why
Those long walks with you as a kid
Taking shelter in your arms when tired
Those long discussion and funny stories you used to tell
I should do best & be happy, that was what you desired

My epidermis
does not
make me
better

Than the brown-faced boy from Georgia
who won’t be taught about racism in school
but will still learn it there.

Or the man face down on concrete
pleading for air
gasping
dying
beneath a knee
of oppression.

Or the young girl
with box braids
staring out the school bus window
at confederate flags
and soccer-mom vans with
all-lives-matter bumper stickers.

Or the mother of mothers
And the motherless
with an angel’s smile
murdered
on a Saturday grocery run.

My epidermis
does not
make
me
better
or more important
or more American
or more worthy of life.

My epidermis
is not a burden
I must carry.

My epidermis
is privilege
in this sad, torn, and
terrible world.

deconstructing heaven

stained as we are by the imperfection of the human condition
encased in the flesh that both sustains and limits us
we cannot imagine the sacred geometry of the universe
but when we become the stardust that lights the blackest nights
every mystery will be revealed in a glory impossible to know
until we are part of it
if it comforts you to dream of angels
and an old man on a throne have at it
but there’s no old man who made us in his image
we made him in ours still our indestructible atomic energy

This poem is from a sequence—“Black Vespers Pageants” started on September 13, 2001 as a way to process what I had seen from my office building’s rooftop in midtown on the 11th and durning my subsequent walk down to @parrishgriggs apartment in the west village later that day.
“Inventory C” from that same sequence.

A POOR LIFE THIS IS ...
(My take on William Henry Davies's classic )

A poor life this is , filled with selfies and numerous check in's ,
We make no time for those in despair , including our kin. +

No time to spare , or even share a few words of care ,
For those who need our time ,we gift them a solitaire .

No time to soak in the beauty of #nature and let ourselves free,
For we are too busy posing and posting , akin to a wannabe! +
3/6
No time to fathom what one ought to do with one's life,
For we all are preoccupied in proving ourselves right ;thereby causing others strife.

No time to extend a helping hand , but tweeting aplenty ,
For we all secretly wish to be labelled as a "cognoscenti". +

Today I'm cleaning up personal wreckage & when the walls close in I #amwriting my autobiographical #poem. Last year I wrote 1200+ ABAB lines in pentameter quatrains & I'm learning about iamb vs trochee vs spondee & reading out loud to improve. It's the first #poetry I ever wrote:
An excerpt from my autobiographical poem:

He started making good money at times
Said it was from one job or another
He didn’t know yet he had crossed the line
He’d sold hot goods to an undercover
/1
He supplied dynamite stolen from mines
To a man we met drinking in a bar
Hardcore place we hung out most of the time
Haggard strippers, card games, and cheap cigars

HOW TO BE A #POET
by #WendellBerry
(to remind myself)

Make a place to sit down.
Sit down. Be #quiet.
You must depend upon
#affection, reading, knowledge,
skill — more of each
than you have — #inspiration,
work, growing older, patience,
for #patience joins time
to eternity.

Any #readers
who like your #poems,
doubt their judgment.
3of6

#Breathe with unconditional breath
the unconditioned air.

Shun electric wire.

#Communicate slowly.

#Live a three-dimensioned life;

stay away from screens.

Home
no one leaves home unless home chases you
fire under feet
hot blood in your belly
it’s not something you ever thought of doing
until the blade burnt threats into
your neck
and even then you carried the anthem under
your breath

#WhereAreTheChildren
only tearing up your passport in an airport toilets
sobbing as each mouthful of paper
made it clear that you wouldn’t be going back.

you have to understand,
that no one puts their children in a boat
unless the water is safer than the land
no one burns their palms
under trains
beneath carriages
no one spends days and nights in the stomach of a truck
feeding on newspaper unless the miles travelled
means something more than journey.
no one crawls under fences
no one wants to be beaten
pitied
