BREAKING: The Trump administration just finalized a rule that attempts to ease nondiscrimination protections in health care. This is always unconscionable, but especially so during a pandemic. #PutPatientsFirst
This rule change attempts to undermine anti-discrimination protections in place under Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of "color, national origin, sex, age or disability."
To work against anyone's access to care in the midst of a global health is unconscionable.

TODAY, we are in court in California with @LambdaLegal and @americansunited fighting against a discriminatory rule that invites any health care worker – from doctors to EMTs to clerical staff – to deny medical treatment to patients because of personal religious or moral beliefs. Image
@LambdaLegal @americansunited Because the rule is confusing and infeasible to implement, many health care facilities will likely be forced to eliminate services such as reproductive and LGBTQ+ care, leaving millions across the United States without access to critical health care. #PutPatientsFirst
Health care facilities risk losing essential federal funding if they do not grant employees authority to deny services.

We're fighting to make sure this never happens. Everyone deserves and is entitled to access quality, comprehensive, and compassionate health care services.

What happened to Nicole shouldn't be sanctioned by the government. Personal beliefs have NO PLACE in determining medical care. #PutPatientsFirst
