A thread on "How to Interact with Persons with Disability"
If you come across a person with any disability, don’t treat her/him as a sick, or, sad person and refrain from projecting your emotions of pity and fear on the person with #disability.
#PWDs
On this weekend, if you go to any restaurant, for thought experiment, just imagine how would you enter into the building with all those stairs if you happen to be on wheel chair? #PWDs
Just imagine how would you feel if you can’t see the man behind the counter because it is too high if you happen to be on a wheel chair . #PWDs

The Dishonourable Carla Qualtrough, Minister of Disability Exclusion, said during her side event at the United Nations that her government took longer than it should have to provide one-time $600 to approx. ⅓ of Canada’s disabled (DTC):

webtv.un.org/search/the-pat…
Minister Qualtrough continued, saying that her government is thus “determined to not let history repeat itself,” and that part of their so doing: implement a Disability Inclusion Action Plan with new Canadian Disability Benefit.

But their Budget 2021 proves that that was a lie. ImageImage
In the Budget 2021, Carla Qualtrough’s government commits $12-million over the next *three years* on consultations for reforming their benefits’ eligibility processes.

It took more than half a year to provide the aforementioned $600; the Minister then said, they wouldn’t repeat.

For each #Province and #Territory in #Canada, here is the help that was offered to those living with #disabilities. This will include the #Federal help offered as well as any hoops #PWDs may have needed to jump through to get it and whether CERB was clawed back or not.
This is based on my own research, and if anyone sees anything I missed or may have gotten wrong please let me know.
Let's start with #Yukon
According to several articles, eligible families on #disability supports we're to get up to $400 to help with costs until August. Unknown what eligibility was.
#CERB was exempt from clawbacks.

After speaking with @fordnation's office, was told a written request is needed to initiate a 2 week wait period. They confirmed that an email IS considered a request, but we can try contacting his PR team. His office can leave note but that wont expedite the process.
My heart goes out to everyone who has been trying to get a hold of @fordnation and to those who don't have the energy to. When contacting @Ont_Ombudsman I was told they can't intervene with him since he is an elected official, but he has redtape like a celebrity.
It seems for #pwds the goal posts are constantly shifted away from us. "You need a written request for a call"
"I did"
"You need to wait 2 weeks"
"Sent them in July, last called Sept; it's now Oct. . ."
"I'll transfer you to check the email status . . . Try his PR team?"

Dear @fordnation , my name is Jessica F, and this will be my 3rd attempt to contact you. I understand that you are incredibly busy, and I apologize if my messages are a burden, but this matter is important not only to me but my community as well. #ODSPoverty
@fordnation On August 7th, when asked why the $100 Covid-19 relief was cancelled you cited those who were able to collect CERB as well as ODSP, saying they were up a couple hundred bucks and those who are healthy enough to work should get a job. #ODSPoverty
According to the @ODSPAction , only 8% at most of ODSP recipients were able to work at the end of 2019, meaning when you cited those who could work, you left out approx. 92%, including myself who physically cannot work without severe risks to my physical health. #ODSPoverty

According to @WorldBank estimates, #PWDs make up 15% of the Nigerian population. They represent one of the most vulnerable groups in our communities. That is why we have always emphasised that palliative measures and social safety interventions activated, especially Image
