THREAD: With grocery store workers on the front line of the #COVID19 pandemic, some @QFCGrocery employees are upset after receiving a “token of appreciation” from the company – $2.
QFC tells me the letter created confusion and the $2 is not meant to be a “bonus.” A spokesperson tells me: “Historically, this small gift card ($2) was given during leadership store visits at holiday time as a special coffee or treat during breaktime for associates.” (2/3)
“During COVID, our holiday tours were suspended but there was a desire to still provide the small token of fun treats.  We continue to listen to our associates and can appreciate the confusion and will work to clear it up.” (3/3) #Q13FOX

Seattle.
People don't want it shared because they don't want officers to get sympathy. They will say it's an isolated incident or no big deal. But if this was directed at any other group of people it would be news. Think of how many stories the we in the news do about hateful graffiti.

In an interview this morning, Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan responded to reports that AG William Barr floated idea of having her charged with sedition over #CHOP. #Q13FOX (1/3)
If sedition charge was truly floated by AG Barr, does Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan believe such a thing would be pursued seriously by her old employer - the Department of Justice? #Q13FOX (2/3)
Arguments of "sedition" aside, does Mayor Durkan take responsibility for the occupied protest zone known as #CHOP? #Q13FOX (3/3) More here: facebook.com/brandikruseq13…

Sunday on #TheDivide: @AGOWA Bob Ferguson explained why he believes a lawsuit to prevent USPS cuts is still necessary, despite postmaster general walking back plans to scale down operations before the 2020 election. (1/3)
Ferguson also commented on whether his lawsuit will seek to restore high-speed sorting machines that have already been dismantled. (2/3)
Ferguson acknowledged that his lawsuit will not prevent future cuts to USPS, and has no impact on ongoing problems with U.S. Postal Service funding - problems that will persist long after the 2020 election. #TheDivide #Q13FOX (3/3)

Wyman added, however, that there are legitimate concerns over how states new to mail-in voting will perform in November: "It's going to be a heavy lift for a number of states." (2/3)
Secretary of State Wyman also responded to recent comments that President Trump may not accept the results of the election should he lose. #TheDivide #Q13FOX (3/3)

Seattle Police Chief Carmen Best and Mayor Jenny Durkan are expected to speak at 11am. We will carry it live on #Q13FOX once it begins. I will tweet updates here.
Chief Best: "For me personally this was a decision I wrestled with, but it was time."
Chief Best: "To the men and women of the Seattle Police Department sworn and civilian, you will always have my respect, you will always be in my heart. You are without a doubt the best police department in the country."

BREAKING: Seattle Police Chief @CarmenBest is going to resign, two sources familiar with her decision confirm. The announcement is imminent, I'm told. There is an 11am presser scheduled for tomorrow with the Mayor. Unclear if announcement will take place then. (THREAD) #Q13FOX
The Chief's decision comes as the @SeattleCouncil made a series of cuts to @SeattlePD's budget today, including forced layoffs of officers and cuts to pay for command staff.
The budget cuts come after months of protests following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, which spurred pledges from @SeattleCouncil members to defund SPD by 50%.

(1/3) Commentary: Tomorrow, the @SeattleCouncil will vote to make cuts to @SeattlePD. It is the start of making good on a pledge to defund SPD by 50%.
#Q13FOX #TheDivide
(2/3) As part of the cuts, the @SeattleCouncil will do a whole bunch of things that don't actually accomplish anything protesters have demanded.
(3/3) So why would the @SeattleCouncil make cuts to @SeattlePD that manage to accomplish the exact opposite of everything they claim to care about? Because, as their fellow councilmember @D5Juarez said, "this is what happens when you write a check you can't cash."

THREAD: This is going to be a long one. But I want to take a few minutes to point out some of the obvious moral and logical shortcomings at Seattle City Hall. If the press doesn't do it, then who will? #TheDivide #Q13FOX #SeattleProtest #SeattleRiots
Let's start with Councilwoman @Lisa_Herbold, who only calls for peace in Seattle when it allows her to make a political point against the president.
And while Councilwoman Herbold speaks with absolute certitude about what's happening 200 miles away in Portland, she acts as if she can't possibly know for sure what's happening in the city she is elected to serve.

THREAD:

In response to another deadly shooting tied to #CHOP, Seattle City Council members @cmkshama and @CMLGonzalez falsely claimed the shooting had nothing to do with the zone. (1/3)
Both fatal shootings, while circumstances remain murky, have direct and undeniable ties to the occupation of that area. The first victim's family blames the zone for preventing a proper emergency response to shooting. The second shooting involved armed #CHOP protesters. (2/3)
Meanwhile, it is clear Seattle leaders do not have a plan to deal with the situation in #CHOP and the related violence. Council members are trying harder to find excuses for the violence than they are to address it. (3/3) #Q13FOX

The addition of concrete barriers in #CHOP this morning is actually very significant for a couple reasons.

1) This is a clear sign that the city is letting protesters stay long term. They are specifically adding wood around concrete barriers for people to decorate.
2) Barriers help prevent cars from driving into protesters (a very real threat as we have already seen), while still allowing a lane of travel for emergency responders.
3) This is an important step toward coexistence and the fact protesters are on board is important. The city is giving them increased safety, in exchange for increased access. People live and work in the #CHOP zone and they deserve emergency services. #Q13FOX

Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan joined #TheDivide this week. We discussed a video posted by @SeattlePD Chief @carmenbest, accusing the city of "relenting to severe public pressure" in abandoning the East Precinct. (1/4)
Mayor Durkan and I also discussed the decision to clear out from East Precinct and immediate area given what they called a "credible" threat of arson. Was that the best decision for public safety given adjoining apartments and businesses? #TheDivide #Q13FOX (2/4)
Will she support defunding @SeattlePD at 50%? Mayor Jenny Durkan said no. But said she wants the city to invest $100M per year for at least ten years in community programs. #Q13FOX #TheDivide (3/4)

WSP says it "apologizes for the poor choice of words by one our team leaders" in this video. Went on to say: "We hope the public will accept that apology and ask that it offer some grace as our troopers are out there in a very real world tonight." (1/3)
WSP said the trooper was "doing his best in the heat of confrontation to create a mental environment for his troopers where they could do a 'push' technique." (2/3)

Press is on a conference call with state leaders now to discuss the "stay-at-home" order from @GovInslee. I will tweet updates in this thread. #q13fox #Coronavirus
Governor's chief of staff says order was in the works for several days. They were in touch with cities, counties, labor, to figure out specifics. List of essential workers took time.
.@RachelAPOly asked about general construction workers and whether they're essential (Amazon buildings, arena, affordable housing). Answer was unclear. The belief is that "essential" construction would only apply to things like hospitals, etc. Will follow up when we have clarity.

There’s a lot of talk and speculation about whether Washington state will be put on a “shelter in place” order or a curfew. Here’s the deal: Many are doing that already. So it sounds like an extreme, but so many have already taken steps to avoid interaction with others. (1/3)
If everyone would simply follow the CDC guidelines in place and existing mandates from @GovInslee and WA health officials, they wouldn’t need to worry about more restrictive measures. But when Alki Beach looks like a summer pool party, you’re almost daring them to act. (2/3)
The sooner everyone acts in good faith to limit interactions and avoid non-essential outings, the faster we can get back to our normal lives. (3/3) #coronavirus #Q13fox

Looks like @JoeBiden is heading to big #LittleTuesday wins in Michigan, Missouri, and Mississippi. Hard to know whether we’ll be able to predict #WashingtonPrimary (second biggest prize today) tonight. Vote by mail is cool, but slow. So don’t panic, America. #Q13FOX #waelex
The @washdems have cautioned local media against jumping to primary-night conclusions in Washington. Noting that late ballot returns may skew much different than early ones, given so many campaigns folded over past 10 days. Keep in mind voters here have had ballots for 2+ weeks.
As such, the Washington state Democratic Party has said it will NOT make any official delegate allocations tonight, but will wait (possibly weeks!) until results are finalized. #WashingtonPrimary #Q13FOX #waelex
