As the #rstats course material is not public (yet?) or available as online training (yet?), I thought I am sharing some slides from the deck.

A look at #streamflow conditions across @USGS_Water streamgages the for the month of July - dry conditions increased in western states while it was wetter than normal in others 💧🌞

With the cartogram we see some spatial variability in flow conditions, but it can also vary temporally. Looking at the past year of streamflow, the greatest proportion of gages in dry conditions occurred Aug-Oct while the greatest proportion in wet conditions occurred Mar-May. #JSM2021 panel led by @minebocek on upskilling for a statistician -- how to learn??
@minebocek #JSM2021 @hglanz no shortage of stuff to learn. First identify what you don't know -- that comes from modern media (blogs, twitter, podcasts; groups, communities -- @RLadiesGlobal or local chapters; professional organizations -- @amstatnews ).
@minebocek @hglanz @RLadiesGlobal @AmstatNews #JSM2021 @hglanz What do the job postings require these days? (This is how the content for the @CalPoly stat/data science program was developed.)

So you want to learn #rstats? I’ll tell you about my favourite learning resources in a minute, but first… some tips and tricks. 1/n
Tip 1: Find a reason. It is tough to get motivated to learn something new when your old workflow, while inefficient and not reproducible, gets the job done. If you try to learn #rstats in service of a real project, you are more likely to persevere. 2/n
Tip 2: Make it fun with side projects. Try sentiment analysis on Jane Austen novels juliasilge.com/blog/you-must-… Or learn regular exp by on analyzing your bank trans data r-bloggers.com/analyse-your-b…. Check out #tidytuesday for vis practice datasets 3/n

100% proud 😊 of this community achievement 💪🏽: a translation to Spanish of a must-read 📖 for those who are starting with #rstats - or learned it a while ago! ⌛️

Thread 1/n
As announced at #LatinR2019, the translation to Spanish of “R for Data Science” by @hadleywickham & @StatGarrett is complete ✔️ and can be found here

I take advantage of this great @r4ds_es achievement to tell you an anecdote.

Its audience is meant to be those that, like me_version_2018 🐣, don’t dare to talk to the R community 🌟celebrities🌟 3/n

So I heard about a really bad take today, that things that are available free online aren't good enough to be worth money.

To counteract that rubbish call, here I tender a list of free, online #rstats books that I recommend above paid ones #OER
1/many
This list (of course) begins with @djnavarro's Learning statistics with R. Want a brilliant, approachable entry to both statistics and #rstats when you have no prior background, I can recommend nothing else.

Got less of a psych focus and coming from a #DataScience angle, well you must read @hadleywickham & @StatGarrett's #R4DS. It has it's own supportive community (@R4DScommunity) that you should check out also.

Getting ready to teach dplyr joins to new #rstats users tomorrow, so naturally I productively procrastinated by getting to know the new gganimate. It is the coolest!
The readme is a great intro -- github.com/thomasp85/ggan…. I basically just replaced `+facet_wrap(~ key)` with `+transition_states(key)`.
I really like how easily the gganimate calls fit in with the ggplot pipeline. It's very clear @thomasp85 put a lot of thought and care into the API design.
