The level of the debates in France regarding French Muslim women, part 878678678678. Sportswear brand Decathlon decided to release a sport headscarf gear (basically a sort of hood/Cap) so that hijabi women can practice sport and be comfortable. #ReligiousFreedom
Of course, this led to a big outcry on how Decathlon is condoning so called women oppression and radical Islam (usual arguments). The Minister of Health declared that such a vision is contrary to the French values.
None of this surprises me. Back in 2016, then Minister of Women’s Rights, Families and Childhood compared women who willingly wear the Islamic headscarf to “American n****** who accepted slavery” and described Islamic fashion as “irresponsible”.

1- France, 2018.A Muslim woman wearing a headscarf rented a stall at her local Christmas Market, organized by the city of St Gratien to sell pastries. But the mayor and a senator came and kicked her out on the grounds that she was violating laïcité by wearing her headscarf.
2- Just a recap: laïcité applies to civil servants. The Christmas Market, even though organized by the city IS NOT a public service and people selling there ARE NOT civil servants. As a consequence, laïcité DOES NOT apply to them. actu.fr/ile-de-france/… (article in French)
3- French politicians: there is a huge problem of integration w/ Muslims they're not assimilating, they're a threat to our traditions.
French Muslims: ok, I will sell pastries at the local Xmas market, contribute to the economy of the city & just enjoy the festivities!🎅🎄

READ: #RELIGIOUSFREEDOM FOR MILITARY IS NOT OPTIONAL

Commanders must avoid knee-jerk, anti-religious decision-making. It has no place in our armed forces. Public reversal of a wrongly-made decision is humiliating + career-threatening.
@WashTimes #tcot washingtontimes.com/news/2018/dec/…
No member of the armed forces should be compelled to choose between their #religious beliefs + faithful uniformed service. #ReligiousFreedom @WashTimes #tcot washingtontimes.com/news/2018/dec/…
If a #samesex couple can be accommodated by a service member willing to facilitate them, then a balance can be struck between the parties involved. #ReligiousFreedom @WashTimes #tcot

1) Starting a data series explaining India's #antiHindu system, 2nd class citizen status of Hindus and need for #HinduCharter (hint: #antiHindu system enjoys multi partisan support of all political parties, all branches of govt & so called pillars of #democracy & #equality)
2) Fountainhead of India's #antiHindu system is article 29&30 of constitution which cleverly denies #equalrights to Hindus allowing govt to enact #discriminatory laws/funding/programs & enables Supreme court to adjudicate contradictory laws in #antiHindu manner. #HinduCharter
3) Indian Govt confiscation of Hindu temples is 1 of the largest #religionfreedom violation in world. ALL political parties&Judiciary mostly support Hindu temple confiscation. For all practical purpose,Constitution right to freedom of religion is for nonHindus only. #HinduCharter

We have seen the challenges facing members of the military over the last few years when it comes to #religiousliberty.

thefederalist.com/2018/07/05/mil…

#freedom #FirstAmendment #liberty #religiousfreedom
We must be steadfast in the defense of our soldiers and their ability to express and practice their faith.
If we will not protect that right for the brave men and women who fight for our freedom, it will vanish for the rest of us in a blink of an eye.

Let’s tackle it, brother...

A thread on the #GayWeddingCake decision, asking a simple question:

How can a gay guy support the Christian baker?

To the thread!
Let’s start with a scenario: I decide to get married. (Gulp)

First, I understand that society is evolving. My religion is evolving. My family is evolving.

That’s just life.

To those that reject me, I offer grace, love, & patience. In my quiet moments, I feel pangs of sorrow.
Yet a wedding only requires me, my love, & an officiant. Maybe a witness.

I don’t have the right to force anyone to join. That includes an Orthodox Jew or evangelical Christian to officiate.

My right to wed doesn’t trump their right to a sincerely held religious belief.

#SCOTUS ruled in favor of the baker in the Colorado same sex wedding cake case today. I'm leaving the legal analysis to the experts, but it is worth noting a few things. <Short thread> #Coloradobaker #ReligiousFreedom 1/4

Per the article above, this is not a wide ranging ruling on #ReligiousLiberty, although it's still not good news for #LGBT rights, and many people will probably *perceive* it as a wide-ranging decision. 2/4
There are details to consider to this ruling that are still coming to light. 3/4

THREAD: The US @StateDept released its annual #ReligiousFreedom report today. From Afghanistan to Zimbabwe, here's where #LGBT issues come up in this year's reports.
#LGBT issues feature in this year's reports on Australia, Argentina, Bolivia, Canada, Costa Rica, Greece, Indonesia, Israel, Jamaica, the Maldives, Mauritania, New Zealand, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Seychelles, Sudan, Syria & Turkey. (And I probably missed others.)
The report on #Australia stays pretty neutral in its discussion of the legalization of same-sex marriage and subsequent push for religious exemptions under Australian law. state.gov/documents/orga…
