Mini 🧵

I've talked before about how we're all very much socialised into a society steeped in #racism.

It's in the many subtle (or not so subtle) things that we learn without being explicitly taught.

It's really easy to look at this early years reading book and the pictures within it and not see anything problematic.

But when you piece it together, you can clearly see the messages that very young kids are being exposed to (and internalising).
One of the questions for kids to answer at the end of the book os "which hair would you NOT like to have?"

Guess what the answer to that question was!

So we're already learning about Black women's and girl's hair and what is 'desirable' and what is not?

While I was knocking doors people didn’t say good bye to me they said be safe. When my best friend leaves my presence she says be safe & make good decisions. Being black anywhere is dangerous & we need to be honest about that fact. The murders yesterday were tragic & horrendous
Since the leaked #scotus decision my timeline has been flooded by people claiming to be pro life lamenting the loss of potential lives yet after 10 black people were murdered I see no response no outrage against #WhiteSupremacy, #gunviolence or calls to ban or limit guns.
Time for a whole sale call out on racism those who promote white supremacy and those who promulgate gun violence. Time to center on the fact #blackpeople are impacted the most by guns @shannonrwatts & @GabbyGiffords are calling out the gun violence time to include the #racsim

This vascular surgery paper on #MedBikini is a symptom of a much bigger problem in medicine.

We often wonder why gender disparities, pay gap, and sexual harrasment exist in medicine. Medicine likes to focus their energy on policing women.
While this publication is about posting bikini pictures among other things on SoMe, what doesn’t get published, yet has a huge impact, is the other ways medicine polices women’s attire.

You want an interview? Take off your #hijab

You want to be a surgeon? Take off your #hijab
The problem here does not lie with #bikini or #hijab.

The problem in medicine that this paper so clearly illustrates is the need for medicine to control women.

It’s about controlling women’s choices.

The problem is misogyny in medicine.
