#KanoMaradiLine is a standard gauge rail line; contractor is Portuguese firm, MOTA-ENGIL; cost is ~$1.9 billion.

This is the route: Kano-Danbatta-Kazaure-Daura-Mashi-Katsina-Jibiya- Maradi (Niger Republic) - 284km length — plus a 94km branch line to Dutse in Jigawa State.

The Federal Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mota-Engil Group on the construction of $1.959 billion dollars Kano-Maradi Standard Gauge Railway lines.

According to a statement from Ministry of Transportation, the new (Kano–Maradi) railway corridor will run through Kano, Jigawa and Katsina and through Niger Republic territory as far as Maradi.
Towns like Danbatta (Kano), Kazaure (Jigawa), and Daura, Mashi, Jibia (Katsina) will also be affected by the new rail line in Nigeria. #KanoMaradiRail

Minister of Transportation @ChibuikeAmaechi got the Chinese contractors building Nigeria’s Standard Gauge Rail to commit to delivering 2 extra projects:

1. A Wagon Assembly plant in Ogun State (next to new Railway Yard / Station)

2. A Transportation University in Katsina
Earlier this month Vice President @ProfOsinbajo flagged off the construction of the Wagon Assembly Plant.

In the next few days President @MBuhari will perform the groundbreaking ceremony for the Transportation University.

I’m currently on one of the Standard Gauge Rail Lines that the @MBuhari Administration is completing (tracks finished, stations being built). We’re traveling at about 90km per hour, AC pumping,phones charging. It’s free cos it’s still test-run phase. I have about 3 hours to go :)

Nigeria’s Narrow-Gauge Rail System was conceived in the 1890s and built between 1898 & 1926, with a total length of 3,500KM. It consists of two primary lines; Lagos to Nguru and Port Harcourt to Maiduguri with spur lines to Eleme, Baro, Kaura Namoda and other places. #PMBProjects
These critical economic assets have since become decrepit, having suffered significant decline due to lack of investments in infrastructure maintenance.

It‘s a brand new 160km standard gauge rail line that will run from Iddo in Lagos, through Ogun State, to Ibadan in Oyo State. Construction in progress.
Last week was for #ItakpeWarriRail, this week is for #LagosIbadanRail. From the same people who brought you the blockbuster #AbujaMetro.

I’ll be defecting to Abeokuta and back, bringing updates along the way about the progress of the #LagosIbadanRail. Stay tuned.
