A few thoughts on the Ravi Zacharias scandal:

1/7 One of the repeated warnings of the Bible is that bad men will use the good news of Christ as a means of preying upon vulnerable people. They are called “wolves in sheep’s clothing." #RaviZacharias
2/7 Jesus is so attractive & the gospel is so powerful, it is inevitable that predators & shysters will harness His beauty & potency for their evil aims. They are frauds. He is not. The disguise they wear is effective precisely because of the truth it represents. #RaviZacharias
3/7 I’ve actually known two very successful evangelist who said privately that they were atheists, but that preaching was a great way to win trust and make money. They didn’t believe a word they were preaching, and yet what they were preaching was the truth. #RaviZacharias

For those saying “I can still appreciate Ravi Zacharias’ teaching”—I disagree. The “good” he did is only cruelty & hypocrisy to his victims. But was his teaching actually any good? As a former Ravi fan & ex-atheist, here’s a breakdown of why it was not. 1/
I first heard Ravi when I was 19, still an atheist & learning about religion. I was impressed by his delivery & argumentation. I became a fan. I read two of his books, saw him live twice, listened to 100s of hours of his sermons. But I noticed a pattern. 2/

Devastating, revealing and hope-producing. #RaviZacharias was letch and liar. This leading evangelist was a leading deceiver/exploiter/abuser of women among evangelical men. But his org embraced the truth—about him. #silenceisnotspiritual 1/ nytimes.com/2021/02/11/us/…
Evangelical women, this is how the betrayal happens. Women told to be pure, while leading evangelical men are filthy. They reek a foul stench that betrays their forays into hell (sexual abuse, exploitation and rape). #ravizacharias #anatomyofthebetrayal #silenceisnotspiritual 2/

My thoughts on the passing of #ravizacharias Ravi had a huge influence on me, particularly when it comes to apologetics in the public square. Nobody can deny his brilliant mind and compelling words. But friends, we can celebrate that while also lamenting his profound failures (1)
I was incredibly disappointed by the @TGC coalition profile of his life and legacy. I quickly scanned the piece hoping against hope that they would have the courage to not whitewash his legacy. When I saw the final heading "Faithful Legacy Amid Controversy" I was encouraged (2)
But the controversy they single out was him speaking at the Mormon Tabernacle. Are you kidding me??? He has a long history of academic dishonesty, and more devastatingly, his sexual abuse and predation. Many people don't even know that, which only reinforces the problem (3)
