I have been deconstructing so many of my internalized linguistic stigmas with #RazingBabel, like I’ve actually linguistically studied interlanguages of my own speech communities but never represented them in text bc I’m like “what if people think I’m doing “””broken english””””
but it’s like… omg… I’m not responsible for readers being racist, I grew up hearing literally dozens of languages, and those languages impressing onto english, representing them in text or in an imaginary patois of them is just my life
it's like... if I write a hawker character hawking in very telegraphic speech and/or pidgin... that's just... how hawkers talk... and because who tf has time to hear all your little extra words when u have things to sell, you gotta just get to the point
all these genre stories written by native anglophones being like “what if *jazz hands* only one third-person pronoun” and my sinophone ass being like “what if *conspiracy.gif* only one third-person pronoun, so we keep mixing up all these gendered ones, because there is no gender”
I keep agonizing over what pronoun(s) my protagonist in #RazingBabel uses before I realized there was a chinese auntie in me being like “HE, SHE, YOU KNOW WHAT I MEANT, IN CHINESE IT’S ALL TA OK??”
anyway, I enjoyed seeing the ways people's brains glitched on the page after reading #InTheWatchfulCity by seeing the way people used alternate forms of the neopronouns in reviews, my linguist brain is like "ok what linguistic paradigm are they attempting to follow for this"

I really hope twitter india makes their own twitter ecosystem. I’ve reached the point where I no longer feel like the world is burning, but instead feel like I’m witnessing a once-in-a-lifetime moment of language evolution and divergence
this is VERY parallel to english’s glocalization, and not coincidental imo that it is india genesising this, indian english is one of the most established world englishes and the one that originated expanding circles theoretical framework of english, cf. work by Braj B. Kachru
what we are witnessing is a colonialist taking over a linguistic ecosystem and thinking he can do colonialist things to it
most programming languages are conlangs that use english orthography to create ideograms
I always wondered how non-anglophones program if programming languages are represented in english—except they’re actually not, they’re independent languages that use english as a constant, but are actually more like math notation, meaning anyone can use it regardless of language
me, with an academic background in World Englishes and english as a global auxlang, coming to a unified theory of programming languages as conlangs

I recently reread discworld and was disappointed with the sheer glee pratchett makes fun of fat ppl, and this issue of fat rep is that much more compounded when you intersect things like race & disability—people don’t even believe fat asian non-men exist irl, nevermind in fiction
it is very, very tiring when the only refuge when you’re fat is ~*fat-positive*~ communities that are nonetheless painfully white—this is the primary reason why I have not participated more in fat activism, I feel invisibilized in all the conversations

I love creating hybrid -punk styles; I love dieselpunk but I think summarizing it as “the grittier cousin of steampunk” and centering it on nazis and war robs the subgenre of so much potential, which I am excited to explore via solardiesepunk
as alt history steampunk tends to be set in early to mid industrialization efforts, and dieselpunk is typically already industrialized or post-industrial, and a key frequently unexamined factor in both -punks is colonialism & imperialism
similarly I think it does dieselpunk a disservice to focus on fossil fuel diesel, when “diesel” is actually a mode of combustion that doesn’t require fossil fuels at all, it’s a method not a type of fuel
finally unpacked the stones & lotus bowl I got to help me write #RazingBabel, they’re all water-related stones which is thematically appropriate and also, under the chinese zodiac elemental system, I am entirely deficient in water, hope this helps boost me metaphysically too
