Governor Thomas Kilby, Alabama’s 36th governor, stepped onto this very spot — in this historic chamber — one hundred years ago to speak to the people of our state about what Alabama’s second century might look like. #ALpolitics Image
Referencing the 100 years since Governor Kilby spoke to the 1920 special session: "As the old saying goes, 'the more things change, the more they stay the same.'” #ALpolitics
Our 3rd century begins with a strong, robust economy and a renewed commitment to look for new opportunities to answer old challenges, many of which have been around for decades. #ALpolitics

Today, I’m proud to be joined by a great group of supporters of my #RebuildAlabama Infrastructure Plan. We want Alabamians to know this issue must be addressed now. The new revenue generated by the 10-cent increase will be divided between state, county, & municipal governments. Image
@CityofMGM @AL_League @MayorStimpson @TommyBattle @WaltMaddox @AlabamaCounties @RebuildAL These funds are to be used for transportation infrastructure improvement, preservation and maintenance projects only. A separate portion will go to pay a bond to be issued to finance improvements to the ship channel providing access to the facilities of the Alabama State Docks.
The revenue generated by this conservative increase will put us on track to repave & replace our roads & bridges in a timely manner, NOT when we are backed into a corner.

Where we stand today, in rural AL, is a great example of why we must do something to increase our investment in AL’s infrastructure. This bridge is 55 years old past its lifespan. We must provide safe roads & bridges for our people & allow the wheels of commerce to keep turning. Image
Each year, cars and trucks are putting approximately 69 billion miles on Alabama’s roadways. 27 years have gone by & Alabama has not made one change to our infrastructure funding. This issue must be addressed!
That’s why, today, I’m officially announcing my Rebuild Alabama Infrastructure Plan. I’m proposing a reasonable 10 cent increase in AL’s fuel tax with an index designed to keep us aligned with rising costs of building roads.
