On Friday, @samhsagov released the latest National Survey on Drug Use and Health, which was packed with some key takeaways to highlight during #RecoveryMonth.

Notably, some 699,000 youth have an addiction to marijuana in 2019 – representing 187,000 new youth cases of CUD.
Overall, more than 4.8 million people aged 12 or older reported Marijuana Use Disorder in 2019, up from 4.4 million in 2018.

Also, past-year and past-month marijuana use among youth have increased markedly since commercialization began in several states:

Past-month use among youth aged 12-17 increased 14 percent since 2016 while past-year use among the same age group rose 10 percent.

There was a lot of head nods as I asked them not to put me or my recovery on a pedastool, and more than a few shocked faces.

It is true, however, and more of us need to challenge social norms that may occur when we state our identity. (2/n)
Clapping for recovery status insinuates that I somehow had the moral fortitude to overcome, or the persistence to triumph...all concepts that reinforce a faulty perception of what causes substance use disorder in the first place. (3/n)
