The only #ballet in the world dancing with rifles—"The Red Detachment of Women" (1971)
It is based on true story of #RedArmy female soldiers fighting vicious enemies in Hainan Island.
Putting aside politics, it is excellent enough from today's purely artistic point of view.(1/2)
For political reasons, it was banned after end of Mao era.
But in 2022, a new version began to perform in China.
But in my opinion, modern slim actresses are quite out of play, nothing like those real RedArmy female warriors, also failed to show fighting spirit of that era(2/2)
An old photo:
1974, 🇫🇷 President G. Pompidou visited China and watched "The Red Detachment of Women" accompanied by pm ZhouEnlai & comrade JiangQing. Image

Who really beat the #Nazis?

75–80% of casualties the Wehrmacht happened against the #RedArmy
The EASTERN front saw 4 of the 5 BIGGEST battles in the entire HUMAN history:

1. Siege of Leningrad
2. Battle of Stalingrad
3. Siege of Baghdad*
4. Battle of Berlin
5. Battle of Kiev Image
2/
One example:
In Kursk, the #RedArmy defeated a #Nazi force of almost 1 MILLION men, 2,928 tanks and 2,110 aircraft

D-Day was a MINOR operation by comparison:
In Normandy, the Allies only faced 50,000 Axis men, including reservists and teenagers, with NO tanks and NO aircraft ImageImage
3/
WHY there were only 50,000 #Nazis in Normandy?
Why even reservists and teenagers were fighting the allies?
Because by 1944, the war was ALREADY OVER, the best of the best of the REMAINING #Nazi army was in Russia, TRYING to stop the operation #Bagration of the #RedArmy Image

SOVIET VICTORY MONUMENT IN LATVIA FALLS! My first thread, so be patient if I mess it up.

Take the Soviet monuments to tyranny, oppression and colonialism

If you know me, you know I am super interested in WWII history: my father and uncles served (artillery, infantry, and B-17 gunner respectively). I feel it is our duty to respect veterans, that includes Soviet ones.

But it is time to dispense with the politicized Russian myth that the Red Army liberated Europe. The Red Army took the majority of casualties fighting Nazi Germany, but let's keep things in perspective: #3

Kremlin #propaganda continues its all-encompassing #disinformation campaign against Poland embedded in the context of the Russian #WARINUKRAINE. Recently, the #RU regime has exploited the issues it believes to have the biggest potential to pit the Poles against Ukrainians.

Examples of the anti-Polish narratives pushed by Russia:

- #refugees from Ukraine are freeloaders
- the Poles use Ukrainians as cheap workforce
- the Poles steal the money allocated for the refugees
...

- Poland wants to seize the western part of Ukraine
- #Warsaw uses #Kyiv as a tool of its own political agenda
- the Poles have forgotten about the horrors of the Volhynia Massacre
- Ukrainian intelligence services recruit their agents among the Poles

This is being reported as one of the largest heavy artillery storages in all of #Ukraine
#Russia posting imagery of Enormous quantity of ammunition left behind by retreating #Ukrainian forces at #Balakleya .
I had written about the prepositioning of such stores by #Ukraine much earlier . ImageImageImageImage

There has been speculation what the "Z" letter on Russian tanks invading Ukraine stands for:
taskandpurpose.com/analysis/russi…
Whatever tactical purpose, during the last days, a massive propaganda campaign has started using the #Z for a "rally behind the army" effect. An analytical🧵...
The disinformation channel Russia Today may have started it (or kicked it off?) one week ago by selling merchandise with the symbol of the invasion. Meanwhile, Russian social media is flooded with paroles using the symbol.

When there is one word I dislike in Russian, a language I have studied for 10 years and that I love, it is "naš" (наш), meaning "our". In everyday language use, anything Russian will be called "наш". I have spent years explaining this was banal nationalism, and here we go:

Most remaining prisoners had been forced onto death marches before, about 7,000 had been left behind.

#HolocaustMemorialDay #WeRemember #NeverAgain
Between 1933-1945, Nazi Germany operated ab. 1,000 concentration camps on its own and in occupied territories in Europe.

The total number of victims remains in the dark, more than 6 million jews alone were murdered in the holocaust.

#CheGuevara was killed in Bolivia some 54 years ago today. #AhmadShahMassoud and Che were both formidable guerilla commanders. They had so much in common and yet so different in ideology. They both fought for what they believed was right and a just cause for their people.
They were from different backgrounds and cultures. One was fighting for communism, whilst the other against communism. Che was jaguar of the jungle whilst Massoud was the snow leopard of the mountains. Both were charasmatic and deeply respected for their abilities on the field
Had they met- there would have been no need for a translator. They would have understood each others language. The language of taking on a far superior force with limited resources, but the might of your people behind you. The language of #GuerrillaWarfare. Men of the field!

#Thread: The Bloody History of #Communism - Chapter 1: #USSR

Communism is a political system in which the state owns the economy & aims to treat everyone equally.

But the last 100 years have proved it to be a nightmare which brought only bloodshed, torture & fear.

(1/18)
From Marx to Lenin, Stalin, Mao or Pol Pot, the materialist philosophy of #Communism transformed these humans into theorists of violence and masters of cruelty.

With the emergence of the USSR as the world's first communist state...

(2/18)
...,the slow poison of communism’s association with the #Soviet economic model and #Marxism#Leninism started to spread throughout the world.

The philosophical aspects of #Communism have always been used to defend it.

Happy #VictoryDay from SSI! ✌️

On this date 75 years ago, we are celebrating the formal acceptance by the #Allies of #WorldWarII of Nazi Germany's unconditional surrender of its armed forces marking the end of World War II in #Europe. ImageImageImage
Approximately 1.5 million Jews fought in the regular Allied armies. In many cases, the percentage of Jews fighting was greater than the percentage of Jews in the population.

About 500,000 Jewish soldiers fought in the Red Army during World War II.
120,000 were killed in #combat and in the line of duty; the Germans murdered 80,000 as #prisonersofwar. More than 160,000, at all levels of command, earned citations, with over 150 designated “#Heroes of the #SovietUnion”— the highest honor awarded to soldiers in the #RedArmy

@ChinneryRoy @RT_sputnik @georgegalloway @francisbeckett @GayatriGalloway @RT_com @UKLabour 2. There were more '#British' troops landed on D-Day than #American troops.
The #OmahaBeach disaster was the #Americans fault - They screwed up there as they did in #NorthAfrica, #Sicily & #Italy & in the #Pacific at #PearlHarbour on #Tarawa & #Pelelieu & elsewhere. ...cont
