I love the book 1984. It's a great work of art which will outlive everyone who reads these words. However, it can become a millstone for those who read it, the inevitability of it all is bad for morale.

Hence I advocate "Orwell's Oversight".
I've pitched the concept in the broadest possible sense:

Any instance where the official line is publicly contradicted. Orwell suggested a society of citizens, constantly watched and controlled. Instead we live in a world where everyone is watched by everyone else.
1984 is a victim of its own success. A vision so compelling it has enchanted many, including those in positions of power, but to mistake it for reality is to live in an oppressive fiction.

Liberation is in the fact the internet's all-seeing-eye works both ways; we can see them.

What has the EU done for You? Our EU membership has put us at the heart of Europe for 40 years and together with our partners we have created thousands of initiatives and programmes which benefit all all us. Thread/. #ch4eu #FBPE
I want to tell you about a resource you can access which allows you to look at the multitude of ways in which the EU helps us in our lives together as EU citizens. I have pulled out a handful of examples to show you but there are hundreds of documents on the link
Many regions in the UK have had money back from the EU budget in order to support projects which benefit local residents or the local economy. In the website you can search your own region and there are links to further detail but here are some examples from the North West.

#BrexitChaos - thread: need for definitions:

#NoDeal #nodealbrexit means crashing out: no arrangements with the #EU or other member states, no transition period. Means losing all existing trade deals & years of global negociations
#WTO โ‰  trade deal (look it up!) 1/9
@theresa_may #WithdrawalAgreement is the framework for a future #UK #EU future relationship. Allows for an orderly #Brexit with transition period, but leaves many issues to resolve, trade deals and regulations to negotiate, which will take many years and be costly. No "dividend"!
It is possible to #StopBrexit and #Remain. This means staying in the #EU with all current benefits, reciprocal rights and protections, free trade and movement for goods, services and people within the EU. To do this, Govt must #RevokeA50 (Article 50=notice given to #Leave 3/9

How @DailyMailUK twisted the results of @Survation poll and created a nice little frontpage to support Theresa May with some beautiful YESes in red and some lovely supporting words, even though the front page does not actually reflects the results of the poll...
So, let's have a closer look at some of the questions asked and the ACTUAL answers of voters...
Q1. When UK Govt's negotiations over the terms of Britain's exit from #EU are complete, would you support or oppose holding a People's Vote - a referendum - asking the public their view?

- Support 48% ๐Ÿ‘ˆ
- Oppose 34%
- Don't know 18%

Large margin 14% to support a #PeoplesVote!

@theresa_may Dear Prime Minister
When you became Prime Minister, by dint of the low capabilities of those around you and the chaotic mess left behind by your cowardly predecessor, you had a choice: to let Parliament give oversight to what should happen next, or

However, over the past two and a half years the general population has developed a

If we are going to have a special conference with #Lab18 delegates, it needs to happen before Xmas. A thread on where we stand and why the greatest risk is we run out of time for the #Labour leadership to back a #PeoplesVote in parliament ... amp.theguardian.com/politics/2018/โ€ฆ
2/6 @Remain_Labour has been calling for the party to campaign to #Remain since Dec 2017. In parallel we have engaged with and respected party policy.
Policy agreed at #Lab18 is about to expire. Once May's #Brexit deal is voted down, we are bound to call for an immediate election
3/6 An immediate election is the key phrase. If May survives a vote of confidence and there is no election, #Labour policy (as agreed at #Lab18) must shift. Let's assume:
- Commons vote on 11th Dec
- Confidence vote on 12th Dec
On 13th Dec, Jeremy Corbyn must set out his policy

Once again they say there was a very strong instruction to Parliament - the minority was a tiny percentage - this can't be seen as a strong instruction.

Thread โ†’

REMAINERS are often criticised for remoaning rather than making the positive case to stay in the EU...

So as we enter the Brexit End Game, here's a reminder of some of the amazing benefits for *everyone* if we simply #Remain in:
It would really REALLY piss off Nigel Farage

"Sorry Nige it's been cancelled"
It would MASSIVELY piss off the #HardBrexit Tory ERG who want to remodel Britain as a low wage offshore tax haven for their own benefit ๐Ÿ‘

"Sorry Jacob but the hedge fund has taken a bit of a tumble"

How about a #Remain manifesto, agreed & promoted by all major Remain groups? #RemainManifesto

The purpose would be to explain how, if we Remain, we can address Leave's concerns and can commit a future govnt to enact them, to the letter. 1/20
The manifesto could address the main reasons we have been told for the Leave vote.

It could focus purely on the key areas - immigration, sovereignty, EU federal plans, EU wastefulness.
It could detail precise ways in which we can protect ourselves from these concerns. 2/20
hy not compromise by changing Britain as it is today, but not by leaving the EU? And save the cost & risk of Brexit.

But I think we should only address the areas directly detailed as being the reasons for the Leave vote. Not what we suspect may be underlying. 3/20

As you may know, campaigning against brexit is my full time 'job' at the moment. Usually, I try to focus on that and keep out of public spats as much as possible, but there are a few things that I just can't keep quiet about anymore. 1/
The first are the ppl, who attack #RemainerNow. To say this angers me is an understatement. Many of us are putting time, effort & money into getting ppl to change their minds, but a few individuals seem to think that venting their anger is more important than our shared goal 2/
If you can explain to me in what way berating #RemainerNow will help #remain, I am happy to listen and stand corrected. But right now, you are culpable if we fail. You can choose to be part of the solution, but that means not continuing to be part of the problem. 3/

Thread/ (apologies - I blame Brexit!)
It is now patently obvious that #Remain is the biggest, most dynamic political movement in these islands. The Tories have collectively lost their marbles, so in thrall are they to their malevolent, implacably ideological far-right wing,

& will be rejected as soon as the country is given the opportunity &, hopefully, destroyed.
Their arrogant, egregious behaviour since the infamous, criminally-backed referendum has been utterly breathtaking to behold.
2/
Jeremy Corbyn, meanwhile, sticks his fingers in his ears, faffs about on his allotment, or dabbles self-importantly in what he considers to be worthy foreign causes, as he ignores the ticking time bomb issue of Brexit altogether, hoping he will just waltz

So, as Mr Farage @nigel_farage said, this leaflet popped through our doors before the Referendum at a cost of ยฃ9M, This is probably the only research most people did, it was certainly true for me. Like most people, I took the EU for granted, it was just, there.

1/11
It was the most important decision of our lives, the government made it clear that we already control our own borders and there would be tough new restrictions on access to our welfare system for new EU migrants. The government was clear we should stay in the EU.

2/11
This is the first mention of leaving the Single Market, not that 'we will' as Farage keeps saying, but leaving will create uncertainty & risk. The government made it clear being in the Single Market means more jobs which rather disagrees with Mr Corbyn's Jobs First #Brexit

1. #Brexiters & #Lexiters have 2 justications, apart from 'we won you lost', for the #BrexitShambles.
Namely that we must RESPECT the #Brexit Ref result & that to seek to overturn it would BETRAY the Will of the 'British People'. (nb they often omit the N. Irish)
2. Respect or Lack of Respect & Betrayal at the heart of #Brexit...so...why should we Respect the EURef 2016 & Who or What is being Betrayed?

So @theresa_may thinks the EU should respect the UK? Why? Why should they respect a country that is implementing a non-binding referendum won through Russian meddling, breaking the law and lies?
Why should they respect a country that triggered A50 without a plan?
Why should they respect a country whose government are being held hostage by the ERG?

While UK spirals down & out of control, gripped by self-inflicted Brexit-fixated inward-looking dirty-selfish politics, Major Parties talk to themselves with NO results, so far. Yet, every passing day brings new reasons to put Brexit to a #PeoplesVote with the option to #Remain.
#TriggerIsComing to force a #PeoplesVote on #Brexit, with an option to #endthechaos and #Remain. Many MPs are daily more restive over the lack of a truly #MeaningfulVote - another #May mistake that will come back to haunt #Blukip, after ALL their Lies & wastage of time AND money.
The wheels are falling off 'any Brexit' with each passing revelation of FACTUAL REALITY. Anyone who can't see that (regardless of how they voted) is not keeping up! The doubters in Parliament will be swelling in numbers, by the minute.

Right. I'm ready to call it! The UK government is aiming for the #Brexit negotiations to lead to:

- A Norway deal
- A 'Norway' v '#Remain' referendum.

I'll show my working below!

#stopbrexit #peoplesvote
Why Norway?

Well, the answer to that lies on the island of #Ireland. Due to the GFA, there are not many ways of squaring the circle of having the hard border that is required by the WTO, Northern Ireland remaining in the UK and the UK being outside the customs union.
So the options faced by HMG are:

1 - call a border poll and let Northern Ireland and the Republic reunite as a single entity. While the Conservatives are nominally the Conservative & Unionist Party, there are many who would not share a tear at the loss of NI....

1. Every day I awaken hoping MPs would just once challenge the validity of a #Brexit that Robs us of Rights & makes us Poorer based on a non-Binding result the votes of only 25.6% of the Ppl, 37% voters & 51.8% of those voting..many of whom now regret it.
But no it's the same old
2. Autocrats of Right & Left more interested in imposing their wills on the Ppl than the current Will of the Ppl, deny us a #PeoplesVote & a #FinalSay with a #Remain option, on the basis it would undermine democracy, disillusion voters & fuel the Far Right. So #Brexit must happen
3. I repeat...the result was non-Binding & backed by only 26.5% of the Ppl 37% voters. But also these 'Democrats' don't just deny a #PeoplesVote ..they choose to ignore the flawed & probably illegal basis upon which the Ref was based. Cambridge Analytica, Foreign interference etc
