Sometimes, when I'm in a bit of a sado-masochistic mood I like to re-read this by the one and only Dan Hannan

Love this bit

"The years that followed the 2016 referendum didn’t just reinvigorate our economy, our democracy and our liberty. They improved relations with our neighbours."

That aged well, right? You know if we ignore tanking the pound and calling the EU nazis and communists
This is another "nope"

"The United Kingdom is now the region’s foremost knowledge-based economy. We lead the world in biotech, law, education, the audio-visual sector, financial services and software."

No-deal Brexit: Will hit leave-voting areas hardest

Salisbury, Sunderland and Carlisle are among the English cities where jobs would be worst hit in the event of a no-deal Brexit, according to a secret government list leaked to The Sunday Times.

thetimes.co.uk/edition/news/n…
2/
The "official sensitive", requiring security clearance on a "need to know" basis reveals 29 of the 33 areas most vulnerable to job losses if the UK crashes out of the EU with no deal.

The 4, worst affected areas will be contained in another, higher classified document.
3/
Only 37% of small and medium-sized enterprises have made sufficient, or any, preparations for a no-deal Brexit.

In many cases, preparation just isn't possible due to the size of the company / barriers to trade.

Moving to the EU27 would be the only viable option.

Theresa May was dealt a bad hand if cards, and played them astonishingly badly. As a result we now have a puppet populist as PM, in hock to hedge fund managers, would be tax avoiders, Trump and Putin.
1/
By contrast, @UKLabour were dealt a phenomenal hand, who h they have squandered. Instead of standing up for the ordinary working man and woman, and for the disabled, at every step they have enabled the far right Brexit project.
2/
@UKLabour could and should not have insisted that a marginal referendum following a campaign in which unicorns (some of them Lexit inventions) were sold as reality had to be "respected" and implemented, however damaging it would be.

Essential reading @SKinnock @normanlamb @CarolineFlintMP @RoryStewartUK & colleagues hoping for a Brexit compromise. The politics just don't add up. The only way out of this politically *and constitutionally* is to go back to the people.

A thread...

@SKinnock @normanlamb @CarolineFlintMP @RoryStewartUK & colleagues: @davidallengreen explains how the 2016 referendum will continue to destabilise our precarious unwritten constitutional arrangements until we lance the boil.

What started with the people needs to end with the people. Only a #PeoplesVote with two legally defined, practicably deliverable options can bring back stability to the system.

Thread: I just wrote to email.number10.gov.uk and sent copies to media:
Reading the #yellowhammer leaked and redacted publicised versions, it is evident that #Brexit is the disaster the experts have been warning about. #
2/ We also know why the 31/10 date is so important as it will allow the people that donated their money to the Johnson campaign to recoup their investment by betting on the markets. The public can not be fooled anymore. #LiarJohnson #RevokeArticle50
3/ We would like to put it on record that if anyone dies because of no deal, we will hold the Government accountable and we will prosecute the Government for their death. #LeafAlliance #StopTheCoup

Sunlit uplands lookin' kinda murky. Where'd all the unicorns go? #marr #SundayThoughts #RevokeArticle50
Seriously, if you are reading this and you're not terrified, there's something seriously wrong with you.

Remember this piece of Leave propaganda from 2016?

Three years on, I thought it was a good time to see how their *claims* panned out, so I've tracked down the photos they used and made memes.

TL;dr — Leave was the real #projectfear!
2016 Leave claim: if you vote Remain we'll have no Parliament, no democratic voice

2019 Parliament is fighting for its sovereignty vs a dictatorial unelected govt intent on smashing our constitution & installing an Orwellian regime to inflict a no-mandate-#NoDealBrexit on us.
2016 Leave claim: if you vote Remain, it'll lead to UK break-up.

2019: #Brexit threatens UK union. 60% of Tory Party members wld rather the UK split than cancel Brexit.

Any sensible govt wld now stop this destructive project & help citizens get a grip on reality. Not this govt!

Everybody watching the Great Hack on Netflix is truly shocked at the lengths to which our personal data was collected in Facebook and manipulated for political gain, even those who were already aware of it are astonished.

It’s far worse than you can imagine. The brexit result in 2016 is very clearly suspect. For those of you who keep insisting that Facebook did not make grannies in Carlisle vote for brexit well HOW DO YOU KNOW?
I promise you millionaires who bought brexit did not become rich by spending millions on something which makes no difference. The referendum margin was 1,269,501 people. If only just over half

Can someone please tell the dollar, the yen and the euro that the UK is about to enter a new golden age, and that they should show more optimism and creative ambiguity instead of talking the British economy down?

This fairy story pushed by Boris Johnson claiming it is lack of patriotic faith which somehow has brought Brexit to it’s knees really is pulling the wool over our eyes. I ask you this. Why did the Brexit architects think so little of the UK and British influence all those years?
Do they believe their own press that their public policy failings were the fault of EU law? Do they believe their own press that the UK was a victim, a prisoner of the the EU whilst at the same time being
so important and powerful that the 27 partners would roll over and give them absolutely everything they want? The truth (complex and nuanced) of our relationship with the EU is a long way from the simplistic banana and kipper rubbish fed to the “masses” by Johnson & co.

In over 3 years of campaigning to #stopbrexit I have had a lot of time to think about EU laws that affect us to our benefit.

What EU laws do you like?

Here are 10 EU laws I like and this is how they affect YOU.👇

#NoToNoDeal #Brexit #PeoplesVote
Consular Protection Directive: As EU citizens, Brits can automatically rely on consular protection from any EU country when in an emergency in a country and there is no British representation. Handy!
Transfers of Undertakings Directive: People whose employer changes after merger, takeover or acquisition are protected by EU law. Red tape slashing #Brexiters on the side of big business would probably like to remove/water down these employee protections we have.

Today is possibly .@theresa_may's last day as PM, if .@BorisJohnson can command a majority (which is in some doubt...)

So it's a great opportunity to look back at some of the *highlights* of Mrs May's premiership in memes👇
13 JUL 2016: May was appointed as PM and named her Cabinet shortly thereafter, surprising many by giving 3 of the top #Brexit-related jobs to arch-brexiters Boris Johnson, David Davis & Liam Fox. Sheer folly, or genius in making them own what they'd sold? Sadly, the former😢
/1.
5 OCT 2016: With such a narrow result, the country could be forgiven for expecting May to propose a consensual solution, as Norway PM Erna Solberg had done in a similar situation. Most Remainers would've accepted #Norway.

May's #CitizensOfNowhere speech crushed all hope.

This is actually an excellent take

There may be a number of people for whom a 2nd ref is a massive turn off - they hate #Brexit but see "getting it done" as preferable to "dragging it out"

So just #RevokeArticle50, one simple action and #Brexit goes away in a puff of smoke
As @dirktherabbit says, there is a powerful simple narrative here. The Tory brexiters had their chance and instead got dragged into foolish infighting

Why should we be dragged into their psychodrama?

They failed, they couldn't agree
#RevokeArticle50

@dirktherabbit Who knows, maybe even some no dealers want it because its "clean" rather than actually a worthy goal?
A vote for Remain is a vote for a 2nd ref, make it a vote for a straight #RevokeA50 because theres no time for anything else

In order to mark 3 years since the disastrous EU referendum, our group was out campaigning on the streets of #chester for the whole weekend. We wanted to speak to residents and visitors about what #brexit issues were on their mind.
It was a busy weekend as our action weekend coincided with the Midsummer Watch Parade so the streets were very busy with residents and visitors. We had our new banners to show off. Say no to No-deal. We have the best deal.
So what was the vibe? Well I have several conversations reported to me. One couple from Ellesmere Port had voted leave but are #RemainerNow. They made the excellent point that 6 years ago nobody was bothered about the EU so why was it suddenly made a problem?

May’s final act as PM must be to revoke Art.50. If there are Brexiter contenders who say they can negotiate a better deal, let them start with a clean slate and prove it. If others want to exit with No Deal, let them win a mandate for it, either from MPs or at a General Election.
What would be profoundly undemocratic and catastrophic to public trust, would be for a completely unelected replacement PM of a minority government to simply push the country into a disorderly No-Deal Brexit, simply by inaction.

It’s quite unbelievable what appalling candidates are standing in the North West region for the #EUelections2019 .

1st up we have Robinson. Racist, convicted criminal, banned from Facebook and PayPal for his far right toxic propaganda.

theguardian.com/world/2019/may…
The Brexit Party (UKIP mark II) are presenting Clare Fox, a person of some very dubious opinions ove the years. I think Warrington especially and the rest of our region will have little time for her obnoxious past appeasement of IRA violence.

Info on the UKIP list topper seems thin on the ground but since the leader Batten has displayed his islamaphobic and misogynistic credentials readily several times on TV, his candidates will be pretty much the same

3 years ago, a super-rich elite stood up in from to a big red bus and told the masses that a vote for their pet cause was a "vote against the elites".
The masses had been impoverished by the elites for over 35y. They had been severely impoverished for 6 Years.
The masses wanted more money for the NHS and wanted to sock it to the elites.

Dave: “But Nige we’ve been coming here for 40 years, you helped choose the ales they have, and we get a massive discount at all the chains. Plus the foreigners are working in the pub.” /2

There is literally nothing new here
Corbyn never promised SM - or a #PeoplesVote. He was always against FoM. His & May's position is identical & he was never interested in what @UKLabour conference thought

Corbyn supporters who insisted otherwise were gullible or gaslighting
This isn't just about #Brexit. This is a party leader who came in on an "empower the members" ticket & has subsequently treated that membership with contempt. He's do whatever he, personally, sees fit

And if you're still a Labour MP or member - you're facilitating this
WTF?
Meanwhile the front bench in @UKLabour has sunk so low that Long Bailey cannot even answer the question "would you choose #RevokeArticle50 over no deal?"

It's beyond belief that current Corbyn supporters used to attack "Blairites" for "Triangulation"

Astounding that media STILL reporting that 44% of Brits prefer a #NoDealBrexit when that was the “EXTREME scenario” option! In fact only 26% picked it, as against 37% who want a 2nd Ref & to REMAIN IN THE EU! Even in the extreme scenarios, 42% still preferred to remain! YouGov:
In the letter 25 Labour MPs (including frontbenchers) sent to Jeremy Corbyn urging him to agree a deal with Theresa May - and NOT request a second referendum, they MISINTERPRETED this YouGov poll to justify their position. But now we have a media narrative based on this crap!
If your MP has fallen for this false position, contact them via Hey-MP.uk & send them the results from Revoke.info (thanks @TechForUK) which will show them how many people in their constituency signed the #RevokeArticle50 petition, versus their majority!

If there's no freedom of movement then "close relationship with the Single Market" was always just Vote Leave style hogwash

Corbyn's Brexit is May's #Brexit

This is why the Labour TIG MPs left, because Corbyn was never going to follow Labour policy

#RevokeArticle50
The question for Labour MPs who want the best for the country, who don't want to buy in to Corbyn & May's anti FoM #Brexit
Will you defy the inevitable whip?
Will you do the right thing and leave Labour?

Or will you go along with the stitch up?

#RevokeArticle50
It was never about northern seats, there was never a Labour "Jobs first #Brexit plan" and there was never any intention to be led by the members.

May has her personal Brexit she's tried to push through & ironically it's pretty much identical to Corbyn's Brexit
