1/21: Since centuries primary education had the brick and mortar delivery model in India. Over a period of time, with Government support, the delivery model evolved to cater all sections of the society. #righttolearn
2/21: Now central and state Government and local authorities are obligated to provide free and compulsory education for children between the age of 6 to 14 years in India under Article 21A of the Indian Constitution. #righttolearn
3/21: The brick and mortal delivery model, for primary education, has never been uniform across all strata of society in India. There are public schools and private schools at various price segments offering a choice for all of us based on our financial viability. #righttolearn

The school as an institution is fundamental to society. I can’t recall a time before this when there was ‘no school’ #righttolearn
Learning is instinctive to a child. From the time a child is born the child is only learning...to crawl, talk, walk, read, write...as a society we systematically kill their natural instinct to learn. The recent directive on no online education is a case in point. #righttolearn
Talking to parents and teachers about abrupt school closure due to Covid19, their biggest frustration was not knowing when schools will resume. Is the system creating more mental health or more mental anxiety? #righttolearn

1/A ban on online classes doesn’t make sense. We’ve seen several positives in the 30+ courses we have conducted @GenWise_ so far- great peer discussions, the quietest students engaging with teachers on chat and even real world explorations! Examples later in this thread
2/As with anything else- the quality of the experience and the ‘quantity of consumption’ decides whether it is good or bad. The lower the age, the more wary we should be of screen time. Educating parents will work far better than regulating schools. #righttolearn @nimmasuresh
3/After all, it is the parent who is the systems integrator- he/ she knows how much time has been spent on phones, TV, computer screens etc., how much physical play has been there, the uniqueness of his child, and can make the best choice. #righttolearn @HRDMinistry @PMOIndia

Karnataka Government issued a ban on all kinds of online teaching by schools. This is arbitrary, exclusionary and in violation of fundamental rights. In this thread we try to explain why this is wrong and debunk the arguments made for the ban #righttolearn #BanBedaChoiceBeku 1/12
As Covid numbers continue to rise, several parents won’t be comfortable sending kids to school even if the government reopens them. So kids need an alternative option to learn. The ban assumes that education of children till 5th is not important. They also have a #righttolearn 2/12
The ban is denying an option for parents to choose what’s right for their kids. It is denying the freedom of choice & forcefully imposing its decision on free citizens. Let parents decide what’s right for their kid & many can’t teach them by themselves #BanBedaChoiceBeku 3/12

As I got up this morning, a few thoughts about the move to stop #onlineeducation. The GoK does realize that many parents will send their kids to online classes like Whitehat or sign them up for Byjus now, right? What happened to their grand scheme of curtailing screen time?
Also, their logic that children from disadvantaged backgrounds have no access to the Internet. Well, this inequity existed before. Now it will widen when parents opt for other means and resources. Unless you want to ban YouTube while you're at it? #onlinelearning #Karnataka
I know of many orgs, activity curators, tutors who are rubbing their hands in glee, waiting to fill the sudden gap in online learning. So @mheduNIMHANS assumes that kids will just stop using tech? Is the GoK going to come to all our houses and find out? #onlinelearning
