1️⃣ Ever driven on the highway and found yourself in a trance-like state? That's Highway Hypnosis, a dangerous phenomenon where you become mentally disengaged from driving. Let's dive deeper! 🛣️😴
2️⃣ Highway Hypnosis, also known as "White Line Fever," occurs when monotonous road conditions lull your brain into a state of relaxation, leading to decreased awareness. It's a serious safety concern! 😮
3️⃣ To combat Highway Hypnosis, try:

✅ Take regular breaks during long drives to refresh your mind and regain focus.
✅ Engage in conversation, play music, or listen to audiobooks to stay mentally alert.
✅ Avoid driving when you're excessively fatigued or sleep-deprived. 💤

A thread discussing #HighwayHypnosis. Definition: Highway hypnosis, also known as white line fever, is an altered mental state in which a person can drive an automobile great distances, responding to external events in the expected, safe, and correct manner... 1/10
...with no recollection of having consciously done so”. – Weiten, Wayne (2003). Psychology Themes and Variations (6th ed.). Belmont, California: Wadsworth/Thomas Learning.

It is a trance-like state brought about by monotony and, to some extent, fatigue. 2/10
Lack of auditory input (in-car conversations), or monotonous music (some drivers play music/chanting tracks on an infinite loop) is a common cause.

Single drivers, or with passengers fast asleep, on a boring highway may suffer this. 3/10

@WandFCouncil @timfarron @WandFHighways @CumbriaRoadsPol @lakedistrictnpa I am unsure who is responsible for monitoring the parking of cars along Rayrigg Road in Windermere but it is beginning to get serious. Yesterday at around 2pm it was nigh on impassable safely as there…
were cars parked all the way along the road on the pavement and anywhere else they could park. This meant that it was dangerous for pedestrians and cars alike along the road with people opening driver doors onto the road, pedestrians with their animals walking in the road….
And myself having to avoid all of these obstacles by either stopping of having to drive on the cats eyes in the middle of the double white lines in the middle of the road while at the same time…

Intersections Safety : Identifying Gaps : A Thread 🧵

Intersections are the places where the direction of vehicles intersect, with many conflict points from all sides.
It's essential to know how to handle them.
Many accidents happen in cities/highways at intersections.
Most of the risk is eliminated by using signals, but there are uncontrolled intersections at many places in cities and highways, which require skill and practice to cross safely.

To cross them safely we need to identify gaps that allow us to pass through them, without an accident.
A defensive driver looks for safe gaps which allows him/her to cross the intersection without letting other drivers brake or swerve or take an evasive action.
This comes by practice and we need to increase our observation skills to find safe gaps.

Welcome to my neighborhood. In just the past few months, I have counted at least 3 people losing their lives on Hanoi Boulevard. The most recent one was just a couple of weeks ago. All deaths occurred at intersections. Image
At six lanes wide, Hanoi Boulevard is designed for maximum vehicle speed and volume. Yet is placed in a complex urban context, with stores, schools, houses, markets, and factories flanking its route. This is why roads such as this are so deadly. Image

6 reasons why you should buy a dashcam

1. You Have First-Hand Evidence Of A Car Accident
This is the main reason why many drivers have decided to invest their money in dash cams. Dashcam will provide as a proof in case of accident and accepted by police and insurance firms (1/8)
2. A Dash Cam Is The Perfect Solution For Undisciplined Drivers

Another important reason why you should consider buying a dash cam is because this will help you report undisciplined drivers. This is what I do, using a helmet camera though (2/8)
3. Parking Accidents

Parking can be a nightmare, especially in @NammaBengaluroo There'd be instances where your car is hit by another vehicle trying to take their vehicle out & may flee the scene. With dashcam, the parking accidents can be recorded & produced to police (3/8)

Not criticising a good deed, but there needs to be better education for drivers on how to respond to a vehicle #fires in road #tunnels. A 🧵

#firesafety #fireengineering #roadsafety #driving
Means of escape & access for the fire & rescue services are part of the design considerations for modern road tunnels.

For a single direction tunnel, the assumption is that drivers will stop before the fire & leave their vehicles, evacuating in the opposite direction.
It’s not a good idea to drive past the fire as smoke control systems will typically be designed to ventilate smoke in the direction of travel & protect the means of escape/firefighter access route.

Passing the fire can lead to you being trapped in hot smoke & unable to breath.
