Less than an hour after its passage by the Arizona State Senate, Governor @DougDucey rushed to sign SB 1485, a devastating anti-voter bill which could remove over 125,000 voters--more than 30,000 of whom are Latino--from Arizona’s highly popular Permanent Early Voting List. (1/6)
The newly-signed #SB1485 is one of over 400 proposed anti-voter bills across the country stemming from an election cycle with historical turnout of Black, brown, and young voters. (2/6)
These actions are a direct and wide-ranging assault on democracy that spans across 48 states from Arizona to New Hampshire, and from Michigan to Texas to Georgia, and demands a response from all stakeholders in America. Silence cannot be an option. (3/6)

.@MichelleUgenti's signature piece of legislation #SB1485 is going to @dougducey. If signed, it will remove registrants from permanently receiving a mail ballot if they have not voted at least once in two cycles (4 years). It is not retroactive.
This bill broke the normally unified voice of the county recorders. Most remained neutral while Pima recorder @GabriellaCKelly actively opposed.
Correction: two years. General Primary General Primary. Apparently I'm the numbers guy...😳

If you live in Maricopa County, your 2020 ballot is currently sitting at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum, in the hands of a company called Cyber Ninjas, run by someone active in the "Stop the Steal" conspiracy.

A quick recap of where things stand:
The ballots are being counted by volunteers in a non-secure facility with minimal protocols in place.

Senate is now voting on #SB1485, the PEVL-pruning bill. In a twist, Republican @AZKellyT is voting "no" — I'm not sure yet whether that's a mistake or intentional and Dems are also huddling.
Sponsor @MichelleUgenti: "Obviously this bill isn't going to pass because the senator from District 15 in a show of spite and a show of rage has decided to vote against it. It's disappointing that someone who purports to care about election integrity would do this."
@MichelleUgenti Ugenti-Rita says Townsend is upset that her own election bills didn't get a hearing in the government committee that Ugenti-Rita chairs.

@AZKellyT has called two points of order now about Ugenti-Rita not being allowed to impugn her.

Yesterday, I stood on the floor of the AZ Legislature to defend our voting rights against a bill that would *make no mistake* disproportionately affect the Black and brown communities access to voting. 1/4
We've seen this before. During my testimony GOP legislators interrupted, dropping a Jim Crow Era slur, "colored people" in defense of the egregious bill that will purge more than 100k ppl from the PEVL. Including seniors and independent voters. 2/4
The conclusion was that I "should be sat down and shouldn't be allowed to speak". Let me be clear. I did not and will not sit down. Nor will I ever stop speaking out for the communities that the GOP wishes to disenfranchise from our democratic process. 3/4

The House is a Russian nesting doll of points of order right now.
And @AthenaSalman just called a point of order *on herself* to get an answer about what they're allowed to discuss after Rs objected to Dems talking about why they think #SB1485 is a bad bill during a debate about whether the COW report should be amended to say the bill failed
Salman did not get that answer, and she was the last person to speak on that motion. #SB1485 is now going to a third reading, or the last vote it will get in the House unless senators object to amendments.
