Last night, the NC Democratic Party sent out this press release mocking Republicans for trying to get schools opened with another override of #SB37, characterizing the motion as "political games."

Here is a close-up of the cartoon depicting @NCHouseSpeaker and @SenatorBerger as not having a plan but the governor does.
Cooper is holding a leaflet that says Hybrid Learning + CDC. The cartoon went a few hours after Sec. Cohen altered the NCDHHS StrongSchools Toolkit.
The reality is the opposite of the cartoon, starting with Cooper's 2-week delayed school statement last July that said schools could open under Plan B... OR Plan C.
Most chose C, keeping the bulk of NC's 1.5m students at home.…

What does Gov. Cooper's veto of #SB37 have in common with his decision to ease restrictions on bars?
Protecting Executive power.

He states as much in the veto.

And a judge warned him that ALL of his Executive Orders could fall if the bar's lawsuit wins.

He cited "the metrics" as why he allows indoor seating in bars now.
The same metrics as in October, he said - when he refused to allow indoor seating.
Keeping bars locked down risked ALL of his Ex. Orders.
Easing restrictions lets him argue the lawsuit is moot.

If Judge Gale agrees to drop the suit on mootness, it means Cooper could come back later and lock those bars down again - forcing plaintiffs to re-start their litigation.

Meanwhile, he'll lean on Dems to sustain his veto: "Look! Schools are reopening on their own."

Reason for hope in NC!
Metrics stabilized.
Vax being administered. Making sure race & ethnicity are proportionate to our population.
Teacher vax begins today.

More students going back to classroom thanks to my recommendation schools re-open.

I've told #NCGA I'd sign bill like #SB37 if they fixed it as I want.

After alarmingly high metrics through holidays, they are down.

Gov. Cooper administration has called another COVID briefing.
It's unusual for a briefing to be called for a second consecutive day.
I'll live tweet here.
You can watch it here:

Beginning 2/24 expanding vax eligibility to group 3 to teachers.
BEFORE other frontline essential workers.

(As I predicted)

All school employees will be put first in Group 3.
About 240,000 people.
Schools can re-open safely right now. I urge that.
Starting with smaller sub-group Group 3 workers will help providers streamline vax distribution.
