First up is Assemblymember @BuffyWicks: says we need $100B over the next 10 years for affordable housing, which is why she's introduced a new housing bond.

"This issue has metastasized into such a crisis that we have to grapple with that."
Asm. Wicks continues, talking about starting the select committee on social housing! Says we need all ideas on the table.

"We put people on the moon, we can solve homelessness if we want to. We just need the political will."

🚨 I'm getting reports from pharmacists across #Texas -they are being directed to not fill prescriptions for misoprostol, mifepristone, or methotrexate until they verify that the meds are not for induced #abortion.
#SB4 is harmful to ALL of us, even w/ #SB8 still in effect 1/
🚨 This is a classic solution in search of a problem. *NO ONE* prescribes meds for #abortion in #Texas. We dispense or administer all meds directly to the patient. THE ONLY people that need these drugs in a pharmacy either have a miscarriage, cancer, or autoimmune disease 2/
🚨 Let that sink in. Anti-abortion laws harm *all of us*. I'm urging local and national journalists to start interrogating pharmacies in #Texas about this practice. It's not only ethically bankrupt and discriminatory - it literally serves no purpose. 3/

In today’s episode of “what anti-abortion fuckery is going down at the #txlege?” the House is currently debating #SB4. This bill severely limits access to medication abortion, which is a standard care practice for safely terminating a pregnancy across the country and the world./1
Anti-abortion reps at the #txlege want us to believe that #SB4 is about 'safety' for patients, but we know that they love to lie, and that #SB4 is just another attempt to cruelly push abortion care out of reach for everyone in Texas, including their own constituents. /2
Medication abortion is 99% safe and effective. That’s a higher safety percentage than Tylenol. #SB4 takes away this extremely safe option and forces Texans to wait longer to get an in-clinic procedure. #txlege /3

LIVE NOW: The Texas Legislature is currently debating SB 4, a bill that would ban medication abortion at 7 weeks.

Watch here tlchouse.granicus.com/MediaPlayer.ph…
This bill is Abbot and the #txlege's political response to the Biden Administration's FDA's recent decision to reevaluate the REMS.

Medication Abortion is SAFER THAN TYLENOL.
People should be able to access the type of abortion that they and their doctor choose is best.

The state of Texas should not tell doctors what is the best way to practice medicine. This bill is anti-science and creates a CRIMINAL Penalty for doctors.

Thanks to all those who tuned into our Senate Bill 4 signing video conference today! If you didn't get a chance to tune in, here are some highlights:
For those wondering why #SB4 was proposed in the special session, let me be blunt: NV’s economic crisis caused by the COVID-19 public health crisis is real & it is significant. The situation we now face was previously unimaginable, but it's our reality....
As your Governor, I knew it was my job to do everything in my power - working with businesses, workers, and elected leaders - to find solutions. Unprecedented times call for extraordinary measures....

Several things to say about this:

Just because Republicans are too afraid of @NRA and Tea Party to even discuss modest gun safety measures, they shouldn’t get away with exclusively scapegoating people with mental health challenges.

If we want to identify “large contributors,” let’s start with the demonization of immigrants that has been so in vogue in Trump’s GOP.

@realDonaldTrump dangerous, racist rhetoric is part of the problem.

So are unnecessary, fear-based laws such as #txlege #SB4.

With respect to the intersection of mental illness and gun violence, one way to take that on is to do what law enforcement leaders have asked #txlege to do: pass #RedFlagLaws to prevent guns from being in the hands of unstable/dangerous people.

In #TX10, the immigration policies of the incumbent led me to run for Congress in 2018. McCaul was considered “safe,” but his actions--like supporting the Muslim Ban and family separation--made us profoundly unsafe.

He's due for early retirement. (1/7) secure.actblue.com/donate/siegel-…
in 2017, as a city attorney in Austin, I helped lead the fight against #SB4, a terrible “show me your papers” law.

The fight was inspirational. The big cities joined together. We won major court battles. And we showed that Texas is not a red state. (2/7) austinchronicle.com/news/2017-06-3…
As Homeland Security Chair, McCaul was complicit in terrible atrocities.

And he took the worst kind of corporate money: donations from private prisons.

I refuse corporate PAC donations. I don’t think anyone should profit from human misery. #TX10 (3/7) dallasnews.com/news/politics/…

Terrible result today as the Court of Appeals upholds Texas’ anti-immigrant #SB4. We continue the struggle on two fronts: another court appeal, and the work to elect new representation in Congress.
SB4 accomplishes what Congress never intended: to force local police to cooperate with ICE. Unfortunately, a conservative court is deferring to an over-reaching State, working in concert with Trump’s DHS.
Similar to other recent events in our society, today’s #SB4 decision reflects an out-of-control government that tramples our civil and human rights. We will be working with grassroots activists to fight back - join us! siegelfortexas.org
