LIVE from #COP27: "We have a big gender social inclusion policy for #EnergyCatalyst. We don't want people making business innovations or business models that don't fit the entire society. It doesn't make business sense" - Alice Goodbrook, @innovateuk's Innovation Lead - Energy

Hi everyone, Seyi here.

The 2022 #SEforALLForum is currently being held in Kigali Convention Centre in Rwanda with @RwandaGov and global #SDG7 partners.

I would be attending virtually and shaping my key takeaways and thoughts under this 🧵

#SEforALL #SDG7BeBold
Currently in a session on “how to unlock funding for African founders” most times African founders do not get as much funding as their foreign counterparts
Tariye Gbadegesin from ARM says African businesses sometimes are usually sole founded which is a higher risk. She also mentions that they would want to see a proof of capital as well as partnership

My most recent piece on why gas should power Africa’s Post-COVID growth:
theafricareport.com/39505/gas-shou…
1/5. Facilitating broad-based economic growth for W. African countries to achieve upper middle-income status has become even more difficult of a challenge after #COVID
2/5. Access to affordable and reliable #energy is critical to the region’s development, and its abundant #naturalgas resources should underpin its energy system.

W. Africa cannot achieve high economic growth rates by framing energy policy around household energy.

Is the solution for clean cooking solar power? Lots of new data out since this article was first posted. And more than ever the answer is: maybe, but certainly not yet, and perhaps not ever in many places. Let’s start with the basics: what's considered “clean” cooking (THREAD)
There’s a Tier system for defining what is and isn’t clean, which aligns with WHO health standards. Tier 5 is the gold standard, Tier 0 the worst. cleancookingalliance.org/technology-and… You can read about how various stoves stack up in @cleancooking‘s fantastic database catalog.cleancookstoves.org/stoves
Speaking of stacking-that’s industry lingo for using more than 1 kind of stove & it’s crucial for determining whether a solution is actually clean. If you use LPG sometimes, but mostly use a charcoal stove (you’re ‘stacking’ with charcoal), it’s the latter that determines health

@cleancooking @paulbledsoe @Forbes Vital @cleancooking point about lag in $$ for cooking energy under #se4all #adg7. A new coalition focused on energy gap for the rural poor has made a compelling case for more such investment to be directed to last-mile households, & biomass options. 1/ pathways2cleancooking.info
@cleancooking @paulbledsoe @Forbes @andy_grieshop @PamJagger @SETIenergy I was happy to facilitate finding #roomforagreement in Pathways to #CleanCooking meeting last week. I was a #biomasscooking skeptic, like many focused mainly on #PM25, for which #LPG is clear scaleable option. But saw #stacking reality - clean and smoky cooking together in India.
@cleancooking @paulbledsoe @Forbes @andy_grieshop @PamJagger @SETIenergy The declaration that emerged makes vital #cleancooking and #sdg7 points. Those gathered had different vantage points, but overcame resistance to #responsediversity & found common agenda. To me, next step is widening circles. Wicked problems need everyone engaged. #energyjustice
