I would really like #MicrosoftLearn to update #accessibility learning courses to include cognitive dysfunction from #LongCOVID. This is going unrecognized in classrooms and should span #SEL and approach to learning design and applicaiton of #AI.

For those dealing with #LongCOVID, even if you're not in edu, you can sign up for free for Microsoft Learn, get information on free tools that can support you with accessibility. Medical providers, let your patients know these resources exist. #MedTwitter learn.microsoft.com/en-us/training… Image

#SEL is an even worse evil that must be rooted out @GovernorVA @cToddGilbert @RichAndersonRPV This is where all the LGBTQ & Woke indoctrination merges in Maoist "reeducation" of students to correct thinking. Progress in reeducation is measured by testing, data mining & scoring.
2. Children are assigned a social score. Their #parents are also sent questionaires & are evaluated, assigned a social score. This is the data mining & profiling that XanTanner's, Garland's son in law, data mining & profiling company is being paid $2Million+ by VA, NJ, NY to do.
@GovernorVA this is Orwellian. Once you've fully assimilated how pervasive & insidious this is, it needs to be part of the 2023 VA general election,@RichAndersonRPV because almost everyone of these NoVA Dems & ExtremeLibDems drank this KoolAid, except those who work for a living.

We need to do better at catching kids being good.

Here's a story about Michael Todd, a student in Memphis, who had been bullied for his appearance all his life by his new classmates at MLK College Preparatory School.
However, one Monday morning something changed. Not only did his peers' attitudes towards him shift, but he also underwent a transformation himself. Kristopher Graham and Antwain Garrett called him out of class and brought him to his locker.

#KidsBeingKind #SEL #EmpathyForAll
Kristopher remembered that Michael was hesitant; he said, "I think this is going to make you smile. I apologize for laughing at you and I want to give something to you to make it up."

An ad hoc meeting on Teen Mental Health👇This is a most concerning topic but approaches to tackling it can be also.

There are questionable agendas, ideologies, programs, curricula directed towards protecting youth. Reps must be wary of this esp the CDC's Whole Community model.
The CDC has proposed a Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child model that would address kids' mental health by increasing on site counseling. Sounds OK, but WSCC is an affront to families & parental rights as it replaces the family unit with the state.
cdc.gov/healthyschools…
This ad hoc meeting is cause for concern. We know that speakers who have tragic stories rightfully pull at our heartstrings. Unfortunately, bills are passed that can ultimately be negative because reps are coerced to vote with their hearts not always with sensible legislation.

Our children aren’t okay.

We had a lockdown yesterday. Four fights popped off at once literally right at the end of first lunch. We have three lunches. We had to halt launches to clear out every area and snag all those who were involved. 1/?
My students and a few (student) visitors I took in that were stragglers in the hallways when I did a sweep and locked out my hallway’s double doors, were just in disbelief after the adrenaline wore off. 2/?
They were worried about what was going on because it was literally four fights at once. They just knew they were safe but without information, so they still felt unsafe. 3/?

This is an incredibly important #medialiteracy thread that I want to add one note to. The data collection described here is also a contributor to radicalization. In this example, the targeted content was toothpaste, but what if dude's mom had been a...
while supremacist or radical conspiracy theorist? (I'm sure she's none of those things, BTW). The algorithms don't care if they're pumping us full of toothpaste ads or filling our feeds with memes that encourage violent insurrection, they simply use the data we give them...
(willingly) to surround us with content that they've predicted we'll engage with. What's most important about this thread is the understanding that we don't have to search for that content, or erroneously click on something in order to tell the algorithms to give us more. As...

THREAD: I’m going to demo the steps for making #emotionalrobots that come to life with #animation through #AugmentedReality

#edtech #sel #socialemotionallearning #artsed #Steam
Step #1: Create art.
Connect color, emotion, and art concepts to design a monochromatic robot that expresses emotion.
Turn shapes into forms for depth.
Choose a fitting color.
Mix and apply tints and shades to enhance depth.
Use features of the robot’s face to convey emotion.
Step #2
When done with the physical art, take a clean, undistorted photograph with good lighting.
Crop it exactly to the original’s proportions.
This will become the “trigger image” for the #augmentedreality Image

(1/5) How should school leaders and policymakers plan for school reopening given the lack of clear guidance? @John_Bailey offers some thoughts @EducationNext bit.ly/2wBtoHg
(2/5) Since we do not seem to be near a peak yet, we're likely to see governors extend closures for another 2-4 weeks. A number will close for the rest of the year.
(3/5) School and state leaders will need to continue efforts to mitigate the loss of learning from this year’s closures including strengthening remote learning options, providing #SEL supports, and adjusting school meal distribution.

I'm on my rant mode. Ts, if sending work work home via Google Docs, please do not use tables. Many parents are accessing these lessons with their mobile phones and tables are not mobile-friendly. #Thinkopen
Also don't introduce new tech & give an assignment at the same time. Familiarity w/ the tech IS the assignment. Day 1 Log in and share how you are doing. Day 2 Share how you are doing & Try new feature. Day 3 Share how you are doing & share if you understand this assignment...
If you are receiving a ton of questions or critical comments about something you assigned, assume that your instructions are too complicated, not that people aren't reading what you wrote. #DesignTeaching #UDL

Got a new––and fairly critical––chapter on *#mindfulness-based interventions* coming soon in a book on mind–body health in schools.

For all ya'll who are interested ... here's the #PREPRINT! Hope this helps contribute to better research and practice.

psyarxiv.com/wc2pt/
To motivate folks to actually read this chapter, I'll share some "big points" buried in its pages.

Big point #1/n (pp. 4–5): There's a difference between *process* & *primary* outcomes for MBI, and evidence of both is needed to differentiate *purported* vs. *verified* MBI.
Big point #2/n (pp. 7–8): There's no scientific reason (yet) to prefer any one trade-marked MBI to any other in schools. This decision is likely based on pragmatics, not evidence.

(*Interpretive note: PMA = present moment awareness; RWA = responding with acceptance.)

1/ I spent the past couple months trying to understand how and why #edtech companies are trying to measure, monitor, and mold students' feelings, mindsets, and ways of thinking. You know what that means...thread incoming.
2/ First, let's look at some of the companies & researchers doing this work.

3/ Like @AlgebraNationFL. A team of academics, funded by an $8.9m @IESResearch grant, have used the online platform to anonymously collect the clicks and keystrokes of 200,000 Fla. students. The goal: teach the software to pinpoint when kids feel happy, bored, or engaged.
