Been an employee for 10+ years?

You're gonna have a hard time running a business.

Why?

Employee skills & mindset ≠ business owner skills & mindset.

If you’re looking to buy a business, here are 5 easy ways to improve the odds (w/o risking your job in the meantime):

A 👇🧵
1/ Start a side-hustle. This is such an underrated win-win.

Save up the cash needed for your equity injection much quicker and learn practical business skills at the same time.

Everyone should have a side-hustle. Especially if you want to buy a business one day.

Hi, I’m the founder of VirtualCFO.io. I work with 10-15 clients as a hands on Fractional CFO, who is highly vested in my clients long term success. I want to partner with driven people to help them get to their desired outcomes.

🧵on who, what, when, where, and how:
1/ I'm a CPA by trade, but entrepreneur by heart. I spent my first 10 years in public accounting.

The next 10 years I founded, grew, and exited Tower Fund Services, a fund administration firm that serviced hedge, private equity, VC, RE, direct lending, and crypto funds.
2/ I wore many hats at Tower and honed my skills. I worked on marketing, sales, fulfillment, technology, HR, and finance.

I grew that business to several million in ARR and had systems in place that allowed the business to function without my day to day interaction.

Hey #SMBtwitter why don’t I ever see y’all talking about private utilities?

There seems to be some way to get a monopoly on providing water (only alternative is a well) to many locations in rural Texas.

Seems like a good gig. Maybe even better than…self storage.
I’ll give a little more info:

I’m building something and here are the costs from the private water company:

1. $555 investigation fee
2. $5000 per lue (Lue is determined by use and square footage, has nothing to do with actual use) which will total $100k for 80k sqf
3. 1% inspection fee for cost of conneftion
4. 1% construction fee based on actual cost. How this will be computed I don’t know
5. Deposit per meter
6. Then they get to charge for water

Alternative is build a well. No other water provider.

Common in Texas.
