Lt. Gov. @JonHusted on #STRONGOhio: #InnovateOhio, the Department of Public Safety & Department of Administrative Services are designing a tech. solution to fix current background check system, with the goal of making a “free, easy & mandatory” warrant system for law enforcement.
For Ohio’s gun shop owners, a streamlined warrant and protection order system would improve the ability to see all warrants and protection orders in a background check in real time.
This is also an issue of officer safety.

Under the current system, a person could have an outstanding warrant, then move to another jurisdiction where the police officer doesn’t know about the warrant – putting them in a dangerous situation.

One year since the mass shooting in Dayton, Ohio’s laws are exactly where they were a year ago. Ohioans are asking the state legislature to “do something.” Today, I’m calling on our Ohio General Assembly to advance our #STRONGOhio bill.
We must not let the deaths of these nine people be forgotten, nor can we continue to ignore the fact that we have a generation of young, predominately African American men, who are being murdered on the streets of our cities on a daily basis.
We cannot continue to let this bill languish while people continue to die. Doing nothing is not an option.

We enhanced safety resources for our schools and invested in mental health and behavioral health services. We offered grants to make churches safer and funding to help law enforcement extradite dangerous criminals.
