šŸ§µLet's make it clear that caring about a child's physical health and wanting kids back in school is not a binary choice, and it should never be positioned that way. Kids need to be in school. We should also reduce their risk of infectious disease, now and always.

Learning about children lost to #COVID19 is devastating, and will hit home hard for many of us. While children's risk is lower, this is a powerful reminder that risk is not absolute, and kids and the people they love need our protection, too.

For two years we've left the needs of children on the back burner. Their health, both physical and mental, and their education. Ontario has taken too much from our youngest people and they deserve better from us. We must move forward with their well-being in mind.

Iā€™ve been around the block more than a few times. Iā€™ve worked with multiple ministers of education. I have never seen spin the way I do from this Minister.

I can imagine the conversation when writing the ā€˜guidanceā€™ memo to boards:

/1
Letā€™s use the word guidance as often as possible so people think it actually provides some.

Make it confusing and add in lots of verbiage so people donā€™t see the actual message which is keep schools open no matter what so parents can go to work.

/2
Staff and students might get sick. Thatā€™s OK. Businesses will be open and that is more important. Work over health!

Once the memo was sent the social strategy was then discussed.

Letā€™s use the hash tag #SaferSchools everywhere. If we say it enough people will believe it.

When the Education Secretary says free testing kits will be sent to families of all pupils bec this "will provide yet another layer of reassurance...that schools are as safe as possible", what other covid-safe measures does he think there are in schools? bbc.co.uk/news/uk-562260ā€¦
Why are there *stories* about the teaching unions ā€œcalling for a strikeā€, when what theyā€™re calling for is #saferschools? Head of NEU is clear that there are NO plans for a strike. Is this an attempt to distract the public from the critical public health issue of safe schools?
