BREAKING: the student union at McMaster University has passed a strong statement in support of the 12 HK youths.
突發:麥瑪斯達大學學生會通過動議發表聲明支持十二港人案中青年
Thank you to everyone who helped us advocate for this statement. We are glad to see our elected student representatives taking a stand and showing support for the HK youths.
衷心感謝每一位努力推動「十二港人事件」聲明行動,使動議可於學生會內通過。本會樂見學生會代表以行動支持香港
We hope this encourages other student unions in Canada to also support the 12 HK youths, and we hope that others at McMaster will also speak to their representatives when concerned about global issues that impact all of us.

[MSG IN CUSTODY]
1. Comparing to remanded, #save12hkyouths in China deserves more of our attention. Today marks the 93rd day of their detention. Their families finally received letters from the dozen, signifying that they are still alive. #SAVE12 campaign managed pressure China.
2. But from the content of the letters, they might have been tortured until they agreed to make forced confessions, saying they had appointed lawyers assigned by the authorities, saying they regretted taking part in activism.
3. I wish to pay tributes to our fellow activists who are about to face trials and prison, or to whom in distress for not being able to return home: We're not fearless, but you are the braver ones.

Political Update
2 October 2020

1/ For the past few months, Hongkongers have faced unprecedented threats to their freedom, basic human rights and way of life.
2/ Arrest warrants have been issued by the Hong Kong authorities to members of Stand with Hong Kong for speaking against Chinese transgressions on Hong Kong's freedoms....
3/ ....protesters are being detained without legal representation & the freedom the media should have to report these injustices is ever shrinking. But we will never stop fighting for our freedom. Now is the time for countries to act, before it's too late.

1/ Survived hearing today and need not face detention for now. Yet again travel ban imposed, an attempt to restrict efforts to activism. Thanks to the court I’m forced to continue activism more resiliently in 2020, leading to the shift of vibrant online activism during pandemic.
2/ Next hearing fixed on 18 Dec. One of the charges maybe dropped by then if CFA ruled the anti-mask law unconstitutional. #MaskOnandFightBack Charging me of taking part in unauthorised assembly without questioning the illegality of the law is a neglect to justice in entirety,
3/ not to mention hundreds of activists in detention, desperate families calling for #Save12HKyouths while dozen activists detained in Shenzhen are brutally rejected access to legal rights. Walk one more mile in darker night. @save12hkyouths

1/ My case will be mentioned Eastern Magistrates Court on tomorrow 2:30pm, the day before China’s decision to approve the arrest of the 12 young activists and its national day.
2/ I am charged with participating in an unauthorized assembly on 5th October last year, and I have violated the draconian anti-mask law, which was later ruled unconstitutional by local courts.
3/ There is a high chance that I will be sentenced to jail. If I am convicted, I can face up to a maximum of 5 years in jail for unauthorized assembly and 1 year for wearing a mask.

[Remember 12 HKers being detained in Mainland China]

It has been 37 days since 12 HKers were arrested by the China Coast Guard in the name of illegal entry - contacts with family members lawyers are still rejected while no information has been received from the detainees. Image
They are youngsters who love HK; while their detainees. Your attention on the issue, though might not be able to necessarily bring them back to HK immediately, can at least protect them, bringing a glimpse of hope to their family members. @save12hkyouths ImageImageImageImage

Despite a lack of related information, she is a girl who loves Hong Kong. Under severe depression, hardly can we imagine how she could endure 33 days without the assistance of medicine, alone. Image

Nothing to celebrate on bizarrely prompt release. Case will be mentioned Eastern Magistrates Court on 30 Sep 2:30pm, the day before China’s decision to approve the arrest of #12youths activists and its national day.

Facing max. The penalty of 5yrs in jail for unauthorized assembly and 1yr for wearing a mask, I'm not deterred whenever I think of fellow protestors who are struggling in detention in HK or in Mainland China.
Today’s arrest is a notorious abuse to the criminal justice system by placing charges ruled unconstitutional earlier. However, I choose not to surrender.

#Day27 [Right of visiting 12 detainees declined]

1/ While #CCP may claim that the group is not under consular protection, the right of visiting 12 detainees by consulate is an absolutely legitimate & reasonable demand, especially for a🇵🇹 #Portugese national & 2 #UK #BNO holders.
2/ But it looks that the #Portuguese Consulate office has yet to intend to visit the detained Portuguese national in person. Earlier his lawyer worried that efforts of the Portuguese authorities are 'far from satisfactory'.

3/ Not a day goes by #HK people worrying about the situtaion of them. What makes the situation so dire is that they are completely disconnected with the outside world. God knows how does the #Chinese authorities treat them in detention. #Save12HKyouths @save12hkyouths

[#Portugese 🇵🇹 & #UK’s #BNO holders 🇬🇧 detained in #China for over 3 weeks]

1. Of the 12 #HKers detained in #China, one is reportedly #Portuguese passport holder while another two are #BNO holders. They are held w/o legal access, sparking growing concern of inhumane treatment. Image
2. It is worrying, under #nationalsecuritylaw, foreign passport holders are deprived of basic rights of access to family-appointed lawyers, which is claimingly promised in #China’s law, esp when 4 lawyers were forced to quit the case due to unusual pressure from #CCP authorities.
3. The twelve could be in China custody for a long time, without any trace. This worse scenario may unveil a new form of Chinese hostage diplomacy under growing tension between #EU & #China

On 23rd Aug 2020, 12 Hong Kong youths were arrested near the South-East waters from Hong Kong by the Guangdong Coast Guard and were allegedly detained at the Yantian District Detention Centre (“the Centre”) in Shenzhen. #save12hkyouths @save12hkyouths Image
Some of the youths' families have instructed Mainland lawyers to visit the detainees at the Centre but all lawyers have all been denied access by the authorities. Till now, the HK government has yet to release any information relating to the 12 youths. facebook.com/save12hkyouths/
Thus, this page will pay closest attention to the 12 youths and will release latest updates from time to time so as to arouse and maintain public awareness in this matter.

[HK #Asylumseekers with access to lawyers blocked]

1. Two weeks after pre-trial detention, Chinese cops blocked lawyers from getting access to the 12 HK #Asylumseekersdetained in #China, per @icablenews. Lawyers described the practice is unusual and without legal ground.
2. #Police also told lawyers that detainees may face graver charge, with maximum penalty raised from one year to 2-7 years, or even life imprisonment if they resisted with force during the arrest. Besides, #Beijing might also charge other national security offences.
3. Since it could be the first case that #HKers are put on trial in China’s secret court under #nationalsecuritylaw, we hope the world can keep watch on the situation and wish they can all come back safe. #save12hkyouths #save12hkyouth #save12

[Trapped in the black hole -
After two-week detention in #China, still no update abt 12 HK #AsylumSeekers]

1. Only thing we know is they are all taken to detention centre in #Shenzhen & Chinese cops will decide whether to arrest them formally by Oct 1, according to #China’s law
2. But even after the arrest, there's still a huge question mark on when they will be prosecuted, put on trial and how long trial will last. Prosecution can be further delayed if Chinese prosecutors claim they need “supplementary investigation”. It will be like an endless tunnel.
3. Under #China's law, suspects can be released on bail. But in reality, especially when all the #asylumseekers may face further charges under #China's #nationalsecuritylaw and other criminal laws, the chance of bail is slim.
