While far too many Americans are struggling to make ends meet, today the House GOP passed Speaker McCarthy’s plan to rob millions of disabled Americans and older adults over 50 of their Medicaid health care coverage if they don’t meet an 80-hour per month work requirement.
AAPD strongly opposes this despicable action. An estimated 1.5 million adults will lose federal funding for their Medicaid coverage under this bill. Medicaid is already difficult to access, and people with disabilities already face severe health inequities.
The wealthiest nation in the world should make health care easier to access, not harder. Please sign this petition to tell Congress to #SaveMedicaid. Our leaders must protect Medicaid for the 88 million people in the U.S. who rely on it to access care.

BREAKING: The House just voted to pass a default plan that will take away health care from millions if they don’t meet a new bureaucratic work requirement. This is unacceptable and the Senate has to stop it. (THREAD👇) Red background and white te...
Let’s call it like it is: this Default On America Act is a terrible deal for everyday people and will directly harm millions of families across this country. When the government plays games with things like food, health coverage, and aging and disability care, nobody wins.
This plan puts a false choice in front of us: take care away from families, children, older adults, and disabled people — or force a default that will wreck the economy. We should be investing in care, not making cuts that squeeze families more.

1 in 4 people in this country rely on Medicaid for their health care – and the grand majority of the people who receive Medicaid are disabled people, older adults, and children.

Why do we have to #SaveMedicaid? Because:
As my brilliant boss @njorwic says, Medicaid keeps families together. For disabled people who want to stay in our homes and communities, receiving the care that often keeps us alive, Medicaid is the primary way to receive home and community based services in this country.
For parents who want their disabled or medically complex children to live in their homes, Medicaid is the lifeline that makes it possible. For older adults who want to age together in their homes, Medicaid provides the guarantee that they can remain together.

Thank you @SenSchumer for speaking out on the importance of protecting Medicaid! As the Senator said, “We must work to protect and strengthen programs like Medicaid, not put them on the chopping block.”👇Here’s why 🧵
1 in 4 people in the U.S. are covered by Medicaid. That includes children, older adults, people with disabilities, pregnant women, and so many more. Stripping Medicaid could remove much-needed health care access for millions of people.
Medicaid keeps families together – keeping disabled children with their parents, older adults with their families, and millions of disabled people in their homes and communities. Most aging and disability care is paid for by Medicaid.
