“A reduction of numbers attending indoor events, including theatre and cinemas, will also be considered”
We have just managed to reconfigure as an industry to 50% in a highly regulated & safe environment. More change now would be catastrophic, imho unwarranted #savethearts
Supports from govt. @DeptCulturelRL @artscouncil_ie & work of @Campaign4Arts has been extraordinary through all. The resilience of people across our industry has been a privilege to witness. Live arts events are church for many. Needed now more than ever. #savethearts
If more needs to be done for public health right now, imho it is important that well-being is included. Live events serve a function way beyond entertainment. They rejuvenate. It is my experience that they are safe & spread something badly needed. Hope & Joy #savethearts

1. One yr ago we broadcast live to the UK to help #SaveTheArts & YOU donated 🤩
This year "all we are sayin' is buy advance tickets to gigs & shows.
It's @johnlennon #Imagine50 this year. Imagine life without our grassroots venues. Unthinkable!

2. #TheBeatles started out in grassroots venues & the most famous of them all, @cavernliverpool has kept us entertained during #lockdown While organisations like @musicvenuetrust @TheatresTrust
have worked tirelessly to save as many venues as possible.

3. Keeping #livemusic alive is more important now than ever. We're sure #JohnLennon would agree!
Venues have worked hard to reopen & make their spaces safe. We will do our bit by being there and performing!
All you have to do is buy advance tickets & enjoy the show!

Well, I'm not sure what algorithms you've been seeing these past few days, but aren't you a lovely bunch! 🥰

A thread ... enjoy!
First of all, thank you to everyone who's reached out recently asking how you can support creative #freelancers like me with everything we've been doing in Lockdown. It will come as no surprise to hear it's been a crap year, but there have been moments of light that have helped.
Naturally live comedy is currently not an option, so pretty much everything went online. Somehow, most of my work now seems to be for children (but more on that shortly). In the meantime, @HYOC2020 have some great ways to support those in the cultural & creative world.

I miss everything about being a #comedian, both on and off stage.

I’ll list some below but as we ask @OliverDowden to #SaveLiveComedy, as a comic or a punter, what do you miss about #LiveComedy?
I miss not knowing how a gig will go beforehands and then standing on stage telling jokes to a room that will judge a punchline in the moment & not based on any knowledge of how it’s been received before. I miss reading the room and editing as I go to get the best of a set.
I miss the awkward conversations with audience at gigs. The praise when things go well and avoidance of eye contact when you’ve died. I even miss hearing their jokes and being told “here, you can have that one for your skit!”

As we begin to look forward as an industry I thought it might be useful to raise awareness of some of the fantastic initiatives I've been a part of, whether as a facilitator, participant, lead practitioner or supporter.
1. RTYDS (@RTYDS)- Introduction to directing.
A brilliant initiative that gives any director the foundation to build their careers. I participated, lead and now support this initiative: rtyds.co.uk/introduction-t…
2. Talawa (@TalawaTheatreCo) TYPT - when I was a younger I really wanted to be a part of this, I didn't audition but wished I had. An intro programme for Black theatre-makers 18-25 I've seen some of the best theatre-makers come out of this programme: talawa.com/articles/draft…

The UK Arts & Culture scene has been dealt such a clinical, ‘perfect storm’ coup-de-grace from its own government’s policies that it’s becoming difficult to tell if much of the hardship inflicted is not intentional. #SaveTheArts
I suppose the first factor to take into account is:
1) For the most part, the Arts don’t vote Tory. By turning a blind eye to struggling Arts institutions/venues – letting them & the plethora of jobs/workers they support die – the Tories aren’t likely to lose many voters.
2) Bending over backwards to fudge the guidelines to allow pubs to open & the Premier League to operate, the Tories are pandering to their voting base demographic. By & large the voters who gave them their current majority in Parliament are not Opera-goers of Bruckner fans.
