Today we remember the horrific Elaine Massacre of 1919, where over 200 Black lives were brutally taken. As we celebrate #Juneteenth, let us not forget the systemic oppression that still exists in Arkansas and the parallels to our current political landscape. #ElaineMassacre
The Elaine Massacre is a tragic event in American history, where African American sharecroppers in Phillips County formed a union to fight for better working conditions and fair wages, which led to a violent backlash from white authorities.
This event further highlights the systemic oppression that existed against Black communities in the past and how that oppression has evolved over time.

I asked teachers a very important question as a litmus test about the LEARNS Act...

Knowing that signing the referendum petition is the same as teachers signing away their raises, will they still sign the petition?

I was actually stunned by the results.

Before I go over the results, I will first share some data from Gallup about the honesty and trustworthiness of various professions in the United States.

Our elected officials say LEARNS is good. Teachers say it's bad.

From Gallup's more detailed report, we see this trend continues even when expanded to grade school teachers, state officials, and governors.

Teachers are MUCH more trustworthy!

Who to trust? 🤔

Did you know you have 10 minutes to cast your ballot in Arkansas? Your time is split between selecting candidates running for various offices, reading amendments, ballot measures, and other items like referendums.

Arkansans are being denied ballot access too!

A thread... 🧵1/ Image
In any given election year, there are typically one to six different ballot initiatives or amendments that Arkansans ready and vote on. Two to four seem to be customary. With a 10 minute time limit, that means ballot titles can't be too long.

The sticking point with getting the petition for the LEARNS referendum approved has been its title. The AG has rejected it TWICE now. What is a ballot title and what requirements does it have?

Take a look at the explanation from the Attorney General's letter to @arkcapes.
