Significant problems with this paper as it looks impact of #schoolclosure in isolation. Without other social distancing measures the impact would be very small. However without #schoolclosure other social distancing could be pointless

We simply don’t know enough about the epidemiology of #SARSCoV2 to know the full impact of #schoolclosure and we won’t without extensive testing, including asymptomatic individuals to understand how it spreads. But until we know much more school closure is essential.

The evidence so far suggests that children do contract #COVID19 but are usually asymptomatic. We also know that asymptomatic spread is a significant factor. No country can cope with unmitigated spread of this virus.

It is clear at this point that @ScottMorrisonMP and the rest of the ruling class could not give less of a fuck about ordinary people. They have had months to prepare for this crisis and yet they still have no plan in place to stop the spread of the disease.
They should be learning from other countries by shutting down all non essential industries with full compensation for workers and pouring billions into health to fund testing and treatment.

Let's talk about school closures re COVID-19. It's a tough topic, scientifically and pragmatically. It's hard to estimate the benefits precisely. And closing schools can have costs, such as health care workers having to stay home, kids missing subsidized lunches, etc. 1/
Yet studies show that school closures are one of the most beneficial 'non-pharmaceutical interventions' (NPI) that can be employed, more effective even than reactive quarantines or banning of public gatherings. Partly, the reason is that *parents* also stay home as a result. 2/
An inventive 2007 study by @HowardMarkel et al in @JAMA_current examined impact of school closures and other NPI, and their precise timing, in the 1918 influenza pandemic, looking at 43 major USA cities. jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/… 3/
