Where others saw only stone-age war, plunder and slavery; these men saw an opportunity for themselves and for a new nation in the true Spirit of the Magna Carta and Westminster system. What they achieved within the lifetime of one ethnic-European man is incredible!

We still have not heard from #SCOTUS about the pending requests in Alabama’s attempt to execute Willie Smith. The state is asking #SCOTUS to lift two stays granted by lower courts, so the execution will not proceed unless the justices grant those requests.

As Alabama acknowledges in its filing, it will not be able to proceed with Smith's execution at this time if SCOTUS doesn't act in the next 83 minutes because "Alabama’s execution warrant is only valid for twenty-four hours, until 11:59 p.m. CST tonight."

1/ Thread on Murphy v. Collier (Texas Buddhist execution case). The Court granted the stay on March 28. #SCOTUS
2/ At the time, J. Kavanaugh wrote a two-page concurrence to explain why he voted to stay the execution. J. Thomas and Gorsuch would have denied the stay, but did not explain their reasons.
3/ Monday yielded more developments in this month-old case. It is strange for a Justice to write a dissent to explain their decision a month earlier. It is even stranger for a Justice to respond to these late additions. Yet, this is precisely what happened.
