I was thinking about what I wanted to write for this & I knew I did not want to write "sacrifices himself for the other" & I didn't wanna write a true love's kiss scene. I thought about what are the truest acts of love I've experienced & performed
And what I decided is that the act that speaks most powerfully to me as that of true love is forgiveness.

Why am I writing this here, when for all the other prompts I didn't tag until I finished the thread? Bc I want you to know why I decided to do this, and since it will have
Heavier content than anything else I've written for this week. By it's nature, forgiveness requires discussing wrongs committed, so there's gonna be a fair bit of angst probably (as per usual this is all just stream of consciousness writing so who knows lol anything could happen)

BREAKING: #lalege just passed a bill giving a 2nd chance to hundreds of ppl serving extreme sentences for crimes they committed as children. HB 173 by @EdwardTedJames provides parole eligibility after 25 yrs to youth serving egregiously long sentences – 40, 80, even 300 years.
The law closes a loophole in a 2017 law that curtailed juvenile life without parole, but still allowed for sentences so long they all but guaranteed a child would die in prison. #EndJLWOP #SecondChances
This is a huge step forward in a decades-long fight to abolish death-in-prison sentences for youth and, in doing so, affirm the inherent worth and dignity of every child.

We're proud to join new #CleanSlateInitiative leader @sheena_meade and funders @BallmerGroup #JusticeandMobilityFund @ChanZuckerberg in the bipartisan initiative to automate the clearing of criminal records, giving millions a fair shot at #secondchances arnoldventures.org/newsroom/clean… Image
We must ensure ppl with records aren’t left behind as we rebuild economies after #COVID19. Nearly 9 in 10 employers, 4 in 5 landlords, and 3 in 5 colleges use background checks to screen applicants. #CleanSlateInitiative is working to change that.
#CleanSlate is something we can all get behind. Learn more about the benefits of automatic expungement and #secondchances here: bit.ly/2LxmJ4U

1/ Look, I understand why people immediately jump to the “What about rapists?” question when we talk about clean slate. Please inform yourself. Harm is contextual - trauma often perpetuates trauma. Those who harm should be held accountable in a way that RESTORES.
2/ Convictions are disproportionate for many populations, charges often trumped up & mislabeled. Creating hopelessness & asking people to live in a world with no ability to function in the world will not create safety. Shame & oppression will not make someone be a better person.
3/ #Secondchances should be available to every person, regardless of conviction type. Every person’s opportunity to succeed affects the success of our communities and our nation. Evidence tells us that time in the community without reoffense leads to desistance.

Diversion programs exist to provide people charged with minor offenses—like petty theft or simple drug possession—with an off-ramp that shields them from the lifelong burden of a criminal record.

But a new rule from the Trump admin would undermine their very purpose.

1/x
The proposed rule would force federal jobseekers to reveal if they've participated in diversion programs—a major step backwards when it comes to fair chance hiring for federal jobs.

2/x
If Trump cares at all about the First Step Act he doesn’t miss an opportunity to brag about, he should withdraw the rule immediately.

In the meantime, it's incumbent on #justicereform advocates across the political spectrum to stop the rule from taking effect.
