A few days back, hardly anyone outside of Tamilnadu would have heard of the word "#Sengol". Nor would many, Tamil or otherwise, would have heard about its actual existence, tucked into relative obscurity, lost to the pages of history. Yet today, the whole of India knows the word.
The ornate Sengol has become a Rorschach test.
Some see it as a symbol of divine responsibility, others see it as a a reminder of a non-existent divine right. Some see it as a symbol of Dharma, others as a symbol of drama.

In Shanti Parva of Mahabharata Yudhishthira enquires about the origin of Rajdanda from Bhishma Pitamah. Bhishma explains how upon Brahma deva’s request Mahadev himself manifested in the form of Rajdanda.

According to #AitareyaBrahmana when a new king assumed power he was sprinkled with the purifying waters of holy rivers while he knelt next to the throne. This tradition was followed from the time of #Manu right upto #Bharat the son of Dushyant & Shakuntala & hero of my 3rd book
The crown was placed on the head of the king who was also handed over the #RajDanda in many parts of the country as in the #Tamil tradition. According to #ShuklaYajurveda the priest blessed the newly crowned king with the following words...
1. It gladdens my heart to know that 1947 was not merely a secular transition of power, but it had a ritualistic element in the form of #Sengol or Dharma-Danda given to the new head of Indian State accompanied by ritualistic performances.
2. For me this ritual establishment of Dharma-Danda (#Sengol) is more important than the establishment of independent, but secular state. However, the subsequent sidelining of it by putting in some museum under the heading of 'Golden Stick' though unfortunate is not surprising.
3. Indian State has been inimical to Hindu interests since independence, so sidelining of #Sengol is not surprising. However, I feel its re-establishment in the new parliamentary building is a good nimitta (indication) that may be there could be change of winds in coming decades.
The new Parliament building will be inaugurated by Hon’ble Prime Minister @narendramodi on 28th May, 2023. The recall of a profound and historic ceremony that marked the transfer of power also coincides with the inaugural of the new building.
