We are being told that we should separate Jewish people from #Jewish state of #Israel. The same people refuse to separate Muslims from Al Quida, ISIS, etc. who refuse to separate #Palestinians from #Hamas, Islamic Jihad, or separate progressive #left from China, Russia, et
> Their argument for the above is, all Muslims have same religion & sympathise with ISIS, Al-Quida objectives. They say #Palestinians elected #Hamas so they're all terrorists. They call left #Antisemitic for supporting #Palestinian struggle & opposing Israeli #apartheid system
> practiced in Israel & occupied territories, siege of #Gaza, continuous encroachment on Palestinian land, houses & religious sites by fundamentalist/ extremist Western #settlers. Furthermore, they dislike Left's opposition to sanctions on #Iran as it hurts ordinary people.

Earlier today, #Israeli #settlers attacked #Palestinian civilians and #journalists in Masafer #Yatta, in the South #Hebron Hills, during a demonstration in support of the Mur family in Tawamin.
The #settlers, who brought attack dogs with them, confronted #nonviolent protesters and those there to document them.
Since the attack against the Mur family, the family and those standing in #solidarity with them have faced countless threats against demonstrating and publicizing what is happening in South #Hebron.

Late last night, approximately 150 #Israeli #settlers gathered in the small #Palestinian hamlet of Tawamin, located near to the Israeli #settlement of Susiah. They came to assault and force the Mur family out of the cave they live on in their lands in Tawamin.
The Mur family that lives on their #land in order to protect it constantly from local settlers. For many years, the family has faced #settler #violence in the form of tree uprootings and physical threats and assaults, all in attempt to remove this family from their lands.
The family was forced out of their home late night by a huge crowd of settlers and left out in the cold for several hours before they were finally able to take back their home.

#LandAcknowledgements (or Territorial Acknowledgements) have come up quite a few times on Twitter and in person this week, so while it’s fresh I thought I’d share my perspective/practice in relation to #Science and #Academia (a thread 🧵)
I budget time for a personal introduction + land acknowledgment at the start of each talk, seminar, course etc.

I prefer to make this as meaningful as possible, but often we’re so time constrained I’m forced to kept it brief (2-3 min is as ‘brief’ as I’ll go) /2
Since the sciences are not accustomed to intros+ land acknowledgements I often include an explanation as to why we do such things

E.g., significance as Indigenous protocol, importance unsettling settler spaces, process reality of colonialism, value of representation, etc. /3

One of my talks is about being an open-minded Jewish ‘settler’ and my interactions with and support of Palestinians. A crowd-pleaser that truly crosses social lines. One synagogue wouldn’t let me speak because they heard the word ‘settler’ 🤷🏼‍♀️
The US has reversed a longstanding policy saying that settlements do NOT violate international law. People saying this will doom peace efforts. I say that’s BS. nytimes.com/2019/11/18/wor…
Peace efforts have failed miserably until now. In fact one thing Oslo accomplished is separating the Israeli and Palestinian people more than ever and generate animosity and renewed terror. Perhaps injecting a bit of realism is just the thing.
