I just finished #ShinyHappyPeopleDoc and am grieved over the obvious parallels to @Kanakuk.
Camp CEO Joe White wrote that he was spiritually inspired by a 1974 Gothard conference in Tulsa. I guess it's not surprising that Kanakuk and Gothard share similar abusive tactics. /1

Both Gothard & White used marriage as a prophylactic against criticism. Just as Gothard suggested his abusive brother could be shielded from suspicion if he married, @Kanakuk also believed super-predator Pete Newman’s pedophilic behavior could be stemmed by marriage. /2
After @Kanakuk received complaints about Newman’s nudity with children, the camp established temporary boundaries that would be reconsidered after he got married.

Wie bekommt man so viele Kinder dazu immer strikt zu gehorchen? Ganz einfach man schlägt sie bis sie ruhig sind und nennt das „Encouragement“. Man kann schon im Säuglingsalter damit beginnen, das nennt sich dann „Blanket-Training“ Hundehalter kennen das, nur ohne die Schläge.

For those who don't know: Blanket training was when you'd put a baby on a blanket, and put something they want just out of reach off of the blanket. When they went for it, you hit them until they would stop trying.
This way babies/toddlers will stay put & not in your way.

On further thought, blanket training is really anti-parenting.
Parenting is supposed to be about guiding your kids; responding to their curiosity, teaching them about the world, being involved with them.
This lets parents abdicate having to spend time with kids.
