Remembering a Great Warrior, of #BhavyaBharath a Great Leader, and one of the greatest kings to walk the face of the earth. May the fearless achievements of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj inspire us in all our endeavors.
#Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti is a man of valor and a true patriot.
Shivaji Maharaj was born on February 19, 1630, to Shahaji Bhosle and Jijabai in the fort of Shivneri, near the city of Junnar of the Pune district, and established Hindavi Swaraj. This is believed to be an original picture of the Chhatrapati ShivajiMaharaj
A great visionary and leader par excellence never received the respect that was due to him, during British Rule. Goddess Tulja Bhavani Ma of Tuljapur blessed him with a sword, it is said. He is and will ever remain the pride of our #BhavyaBharath

There were 2 deities at the centre of Chhatrapati Shivaji’s religious & spiritual consciousness. One was Lord Shiva, whom he invoked in his battle cry of ‘Har Har Mahadev.’ The other was Goddess #Bhavani. One of the avatars of #Durga, Bhavani was Shivaji’s patron goddess. A🧵
Her temple at Tuljapur - where she also takes the name ‘Tulja Bhavani’ or simply ‘Tulja - was for him the holiest of holies. Before every battle & before every campaign, small or big, Shivaji prayed to his Mother Goddess. His contemporary chronicler Parmanand wrote that just...
before he went in for his dramatic, life-or-death encounter with Bijapur general Afzal Khan, Shivaji ‘sent up a prayer in his mind to Bhavani.’ The killing of Afzal Khan marked a big turning point in Shivaji’s life, & in honour of the goddess who he was convinced was blessing...

#Hindu Funerary Monuments:
Ordinary Hindus are cremated after their #death except for the saints. According to religious traditions, they are buried, and their shrines are called #Samadhi. The term Samadhi in #Hinduism also refers to an elevated state of mental awareness. 1/ Pic - Rajesh Avhad
Death by Samadhi usually involves inhumation rather than cremation on a pyre. However, samadhi memorials may or may not contain the remains of the deceased. This ritual occurs in 3 stages- taking Samadhi, the burial of the body, and site construction. 2/
The belief is that body of a saint or guru should be preserved as a symbol of sacred power. In this context, the #Hindu memorial is similar to the #Buddhist stupa, where relics of Buddhist teachers are buried and worshipped. 3/

Early 20th century Bengalis were strongly inspired by Shivaji's resistance to foreign rule. Aurobindo ends an imaginary conversation between Shivaji & Jai Singh thus:

"I undermined an empire and it has not been rebuilt. I created a nation and it has not yet perished."

Rabindranath Tagore too wrote a poem celebrating Chhatrapati #Shivaji 's resistance to the Mughals.

The first stanza of the poem reads thus:
Similarly Swami Vivekananda was a great admirer of Shivaji and considered him among greatest kings of India. 3/n

Armenia announced death of 96 soldiers-- so far the largest number of soldiers lost in a single day.
When I read news like this, my belief that
1. Guerilla tactics
2. Coercive disclosures
are better than conventional warfare, is reinforced.

Vietnam is a case study.

Vietnamese carried out guerilla sniping, American soldiers wr clueless abt the direction they wr hit frm. Underground rooms & traps worked wonders.
#Shivaji Maharaj also used such guerilla tactics successfully on his enemies.

Circumvent a conventional war, avoid losses!!

Under present circumstances, it wld b cheaper to carry out "surgical strike" like attacks on the enemy and bring down their assets. Bt these attacks shld be made more regularly and for a sustained period. Otherwise attacks will achieve zilch!

Since Dragon warriors or whatever are posing with some blades on a stick, I thought I would share some Indian boys with knives. These boys know how to go chop-chop with it. When it flashes, heads roll. Literally. Let's begin with Glorious Gurkhas #IndianBlades #IndiaChinaFaceOff
And this Dao is from our 'Rhinos' boys of Assam Regiment. Comes in handy when patrolling in jungles or high altitudes. Cuts through the bushes or bushy-tailed princes really well. #RezangLa #IndiaChinaFaceOff #IndianBlades
Next in line are our Sikh boy. Best avoided when they charge with their 'Kirpans' with the name of Wahe Guru on their lips and breathing fire. I am sure you would recognize them, they spent quite some time in the Dragon country. #RezangLa #IndiaChinaFaceOff #IndianBlades #Galwan

#Shivaji plundered and looted Jalna, and didn't spare the hermitage of Sayyid Jan Muhammad Sufi.

Whether he died of curses of the Sufi, or by poisoning as a result of the power politics among his many wives, is a question though.
