370 million-year-old "Scotia Grey" #granite from the #Shelburne Island Park #Quarry helped build many #NovaScotia buildings including Shelburne Post Office and the old @chronicleherald building.
Today, the quarry is part of the Islands Provincial Park.

#KiwanisPark in #Truro was developed as a gravel pit in the 1930s to help build Route 2. Like a lot of former pits and #quarries, the site has filled with water and become a natural oasis in the heart of the town.

Small holes were made with hand-held drills and filled with explosive to blast the rock. Some drill holes can still be found at the site.
