#ShutdownSA While government remains cagey about the identity of one of 12 alleged instigators of the unprecedented wave of violence, looting and destruction of the past 8 days, the unrest continued unabated in KwaZulu-Natal overnight.
#ShutdownSA 91 people have died in KwaZulu-Natal and 1500 have been arrested since Friday last week. Overall 117 deaths have been directly linked to the violence, and more than 2200 people have been arrested in Gauteng and KZN.

#KZNshutdown WATCH: Scores of motorists are queuing at South Coast Ultra City (Umgababa). This is one of the few fuel stations that are operational (in eThekwini) following #looting sprees that have affected various businesses in KZN. @NkoRaphael

1/ Zulu speakers have long felt marginalized in the ANC.

There were similar complaints made during the Mbeki era of a 'Xhosa Nostra' that was sidelining Zulus.

Mbeki appointed Zuma to solve the 'Zulu problem' in the party, but this ultimately backfired at Polokwane.
2/ Post-NASREC, there are no Zulus left in the 'Top 6' leadership of the party.

2019 elections: ANC support is down by 10% in KZN (from 64% in 2014 to 54% in 2019).

Violent skirmishes between rival factions often prevent party congresses from being held.
