My very first passion was gymnastics-I started at 3 and competing at 6. I dedicated my life to that sport. Even though only regional the pressure was HUGE. I was very competitive and it hurt to lose - I gained many life lessons from the sport and learned to be graceful in defeat
But the immense pressure and anxiety never went away. I remember lying awake in bed for months after meets going through every single mistake I made and getting so angry at myself - reliving the moment and tormenting myself. As I neared the end of my “career” at 12 the fear of
what I was doing caught up to me. I started to become afraid of tumbling lines, or of specific vaults. Things I’d done for years were now scary. One time in practice mid tumble I had a split sec of doubt and fear and ended up landing on my head. But I still felt the pressure to

She was already the GOAT, so we need to invent a new term. I’m still trying to acquire the wisdom @Simone_Biles has at her age.

You can’t help anyone (friend, child, partner, country) without first taking care of yourself.

The Olympics is not war. #SimonBiles

Definition of role-model.

People really need to leave #SimoneBiles alone.

She's saving her own life, and the lives of MANY others in the sport. This is commendable.

The number of people who are whining about her really have no concept of how dangerous gymnastics actually is.

A thread.

I think everyone remembers how Kerri Strug vaulted for a second time on a severely injured ankle in the 1996 Atlanta games.

I never forgot it. Why? Because I was fucking **horrified**.

I was a 11yo watching it. I'm Eastern-European by birth and grew up on the Olympics.

Does the name Elena Mukhina ring a bell?
It doesn't? It fucking should.

She won the 1978 gymnastics world championship.
Then she broke her leg. The Soviet Union wanted her in training ASAP for the 1980 Olympics.

She had a *broken fucking leg*. That was not yet healed.

Daoism and Ancient Egypt:

"Early European writings on Daoism such as Athanasius Kircher’s China Illustrata (1667), characterized it as “full of abominable falsehoods” and as originating in a form of idolatry transferred from ancient Egypt."
