Most people have very little idea of the huge and dangerous impacts that #ADHD can have on women and girls.
A thread 1/9

It is now clear from diagnoses in later life that #ADHD occurs just as often in women and girls as it does in men and boys.
But women and girls are diagnosed FAR less often, and frequently misdiagnosed 2/9 Image
Women with ADHD are more likely to present outwardly with inattentive traits, because hyperactive/impulsive traits are more likely to be masked and 'internalised'. 3/9 Image

Just as twitter crumbles, I'm beyond happy that my 1st PhD paper just got published @EconSocJournal, studying emergence of impact investing in UK.

Main argument: financial agency involves creating social conditions for the exercise of financial power 1/11
tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…
Creating new financial assets is key to the expansion of financialized capitalism. #Assetization enables rent extraction and thus creates economic winners and losers. Losers include gov de-risking, or non financial firms. Why do they participate nevertheless? 2/11
Clearly power is key here, but for assets in their ideational stage & requiring de-risking to be enacted, it's difficult to assume ex-ante unilateral power differences.
My argument: financial actors first need to make #assetization alluring to heterogeneous audiences. 3/11

The #Collaborate4Impact project is creating videos of successful social enterprises in #Armenia for potential investors. This thread looks at @HDIFarmenia and their producer partners. C4I is a project implemented by @_EVPA_ and @ImpactHubEVN, funded by @EU_Armenia @eu_near Image
Tim Straight founded @HDIFarmenia with a mission to empower women across #Armenia while also using traditional methods like crochet and felt to create products that have buyers in Germany, Italy, the US and other countries. #Collaborate4Impact funded by @EU_Armenia @eu_near Image
Maral came to #Armenia as a refugee from Syria. She organizes a group of refugee women to create amazing felt/embroidered products for @HDIFarmenia, especially Easter and Christmas ornaments that are in demand in Western Europe. #Collaborate4impact funded by @EU_Armenia @eu_near Image

Here are the principles behind the @YHClimateCom 50 point plan that's been published today. And here's the plan yorksandhumberclimate.org.uk/climate-action… - #YPClimateSummit
There are so many things to do - but good to see improving communications around climate issues front and centre in the plan. Very easy to turn people off, when we need for all of us to be fully engaged with what's happening & what we can do. #YPClimateSummit
And here's the summary of what's at the heart of the plan. Nicely communicated. #YPClimateSummit

Today, as part of our #ZeroWasteClothing campaign, we're focusing on Leeds School Uniform Exchange - a project we set up last summer that's made it easy for people across Leeds to share 1000s of items of good quality, second-hand school uniform. leedsuniformexchange.org.uk
Throughout the campaign, we're looking at things from 3 perspectives - what can we do individually, what can we do together as a city, and how can we influence Governments and businesses to do more. Leeds School Uniform Exchange is a brilliant example of what we can do together. Image
I think it's an example of the kind of project we need to invest in, in response to the climate emergency. It has big social impacts - saving families across Leeds loads of money on school uniform. It also keeps clothing in use longer & reduces waste. Social & climate impacts. Image

Here’s a thread mentioning some of my favourite social enterprises and why their products would make wonderful Christmas presents. Do check them out. Your friends and family will love their gifts and the positive impact they make in the world... #buysocial #presentswithpurpose
I'm a massive fan of @elvisandkresse. They make luxury lifestyle items (bags, belts, wallets, purses etc) from recycled fire hose and other waste material and donate 50% of profits to charities. I highly recommend the high-quality, long-lasting 'Slider Belt' for £35. #buysocial
For the most beautiful chocolates check out @HarrySpecters (harryschocs.co.uk). They employ autistic adults to create award-winning luxury chocolates - and they are absolutely stunning. The price reflects the incredible quality and detail. #buysocial #presentswithpurpose

Ireland and the climate crisis - one story illuminating why we are where we are. Thread
#ipcc #greenwashing #socent
Ireland’s biggest fossil fuel company is @dccplc .

They are a FTSE100 company. Last year they made £13.4 billion in revenue and £530.2 million in profit. 71% of the profit came from their fossil fuel businesses.
We all know that we need to stop using fossil fuels. But even with the ocean on fire, DCC have not committed to stop selling oil and gas.

Something Sir Humphrey about it being announced in this that there will be a review of the Office of Tax Simplification. [appreciate #OTS is reviewed under statute]
The government is publishing a summary of responses to the 2018 consultation ‘The Taxation of #Trusts: A Review’.4 The responses did not indicate a desire for a comprehensive reform of trust tax at this stage.
The government will keep the issues raised under review.

‘Returns on social infrastructure’ and social R&D are topics that really resonate with me at the moment. Post covid renewal and recovery will depend on our ability to rebuild our social fabric in imaginative and creative ways. #SocEnt #socialinnovation
If the 90s-2020s Digital Revolution was the era that transformed society through mass adoption of digital infrastructure, hoping the 20s-2050s will unlock an equivalent Social Revolution that increases wellbeing & inclusion through renewed social infrastructure & human connection
I’ve been pondering for a few years now what restorative public services might be like in a circular economy sense. Instead of being an extractive wasteful race to the bottom, being a multiplier of nascent social capital and restorer of dignity, diversity, community and belonging

Just doing a little late night perusing of INGO's statements of solidarity with the Black community from this week... #DevCommsNerd

While some mentioned how important diversity was, NOT ONE mentioned starting where they are and changing their own governance and leadership. /1
Not the biggies like @WorldVisionUSA, @CARE, @CatholicRelief, @SavetheChildren. Not the "cool" ones like @charitywater or @PIH or @Heifer or @Ashoka or @OxfamAmerica. Not the humanitarian ones like @mercycorps or @RESCUEorg or @MSF_USA. Not @PlanUSA. Not @PactWorld. Not @fhi360.
When it comes to anti-Black racism work and #globaldev or #socialgood work, we have to start right where we are.

No more "statements" and intellectualization and crappy DEI training, please. how-matters.org/2020/06/01/way… /3

A provocative but important @PioneersPost blog from @richardlitch on the role of @BigSocietyCap : "The problem is that healthier orgs will find #socinv rates uncompetitive... while those who cannot access mainstream £ will struggle with affordability": pioneerspost.com/news-views/201…
@PioneersPost @richardlitch @BigSocietyCap This is thoughtful and well argued piece that I'd like to respond to at greater length but will probably not get time to - so just going to give a few broad reflections...
@PioneersPost @richardlitch @BigSocietyCap (i) Whether cost of capital is the biggest factor in whether a #socent will choose to take on #socinv or not will vary a lot based (in particular) on the size of the social enterprise but also the sector they're operating in. It's definitely a factor for some social enterprises..

“Reflections on My Return Back to Pakistan, Sukoon Water, and the Limits of Social Entrepreneurship” by Rehan Adamjee link.medium.com/4c5YwZbeMU
So much to learn from this honest account of social entrepreneurship. #socent must collaborate to fix the system -especially true for safe water enterprises @safewaternet @StoneFamilyFdn @hiltonfound @JibuCo @viawater @VitolFoundation @dloHaiti
Do the challenges of Sukoon Water resonate with other safe water enterprises?

People in rich countries don’t often hear stories about organized people improving their communities in the Global South or strong organizations pushing their governments to change policies that hurt poor people. #DevComms #aid #globaldev #NGOs /1
Rather, the aid system is built on an assumption that outside experts have the knowledge, skills, and resources that are lacking in poor countries and communities. /2
Also the aid system is predicated on marketing materials that show needy, desolate, and despondent individuals unable to help themselves, and so, the stories persist, even if they little resemble what is happening in reality, on the ground. /3

"After all, what private investor would provide a company with a 20 year loan where ownership of assets is unclear?" Recommended read and singing from my hymn sheet - great piece @ircpatrick #socent
This also sums up so many investors I've spoken to about expanding their portfolio in water and sanitation enterprises (not just social enterprises) - too risky, unregulated, unclear institutional roles, seen as public sector jobs. It needs coordination at the systems level
And of course the link... ircwash.org/blog/social-en…
