When I 1st was on twitter "solidarity is for white women" was trending. I knew f*ck all about anything but jumped to defend a white woman being attacked for tweeting something like "women should stop attacking each other". Unsurprisingly she & I got our arses handed to us...
...it wasn't an easy experience to be so roundly schooled - especially for someone who'd always considered herself an anti racist, a feminist, & reasonably clued up & enlightened. My ego took a bit of a battering. But reading the messages and links I was sent was an education...
...a much needed one. I listened & learned. I understood the tag much better, felt embarrassed at weighing in so ignorantly, & ate a much needed slice of humble pie. I didn't agree with everything everyone said to me but I understood I had to listen to a different perspective...

Anatomy of Disinformation (Academic, small-scale ecosystem style) A Long, long Thread. 1/
I have mostly been away from Twitter this week b/c personal/family/work stuff including looming work deadlines, end of semester teaching/meetings/etc., and now I am managing not just childcare, but eldercare, so I literally am living the Gen-X sandwich life. 2/

Continuing with a thread of some books we have stocked in our Ready-to-Ship store. We believe in reading theory, journalism, history, novels, memoirs, poetry, #ownvoices -- we believe in literature's power to expand awareness, develop conversations, and improve anti-racist work.

I’m not participating in #WomenBoycottTwitter, for two reasons: 1) ask yourself why this solidarity never happened for women of color.
Sadly, the white women who are off Twitter today can’t see the critiques about how #solidarityisforwhitewomen. We need to listen to WOC.
2) As someone who has been targeted by people who want me off Twitter, I’ll never give up my voice. I find strength in words, not silence.
