This was what I worried would happen with @Booker4KY. Not be on the offensive with @RandPaul, who's an abysmal, but only on the defensive when need to. Just like the @KyDems always do, which is a losing strategy. But Booker's running on policies that are materially popular!!!
Here's a fun fact about running in an election... If you run as an Aggressive & Offensive Candidate with Policies that help the People & their Material Well-being, then you win.
Here's how I know; In the 2015 Midterms, @AlanGrayson of the @FlaDems, he won with no problem. He was unapologetic when being a "#Progressive", stands up with his Principles & goes for the Jugular in Political Ads at his Opponents on how their Policies are Wrong, Evil & Bad &...

@RonaldKlain @waltshaub What Americans want to understand is HOW did the negotiations, for the #StimulusPackage #CovidReliefBill
DRAG ON until December?
Now, millions of Americans benefits are in jeopardy, maybe until @JoeBiden is sworn in on January 20, 2020
BOTH PARTIES played politics
@HouseDemocrats
@RonaldKlain @waltshaub @JoeBiden @HouseDemocrats I'm NOT a pessimist.
I'm a REALIST.
With that said, I hope the Biden administration is taking NOTE of the Republican congress in JUST THIS MONTH.
Republicans like Democrats, are fractured.
We know Joe Biden.
We NEED his circle to be REALISTS

The COVID-19 bill is an absolute disgrace. Included in the 5000 pages of the bill:

$85.5M for Cambodia

$134M for Burma

$1.3B for Egypt to buy Russian Military equipment

$25M for Pakistan gender programs

$505M for Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras...
$40M for the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C.

$1B for the Smithsonian

$154M for the National Gallery of Arts

$7M for reef fish management

$25M to combat Asian Carp

$2.5M to count the number of Amber Jack in the Gulf of Mexico
$3M in poultry production technology

$1800 stimulus checks for illegal aliens

... and you get $600! Proud of @realDonaldTrump for rejecting this crap. It is a prime example of Washington D.C and what you get from your government.

Received a call from Mr @HardeepSPuri, Hon Min of State for Commerce and Industry, GOI today afternoon. Had a long discussion with him on the steps to Revive the Economy and submitted my inputs for his consideration. (1/n)
Following were my inputs:
1. All announcements made as part of #AtmaNirbharBharat Package were about liquidity infusion & making cash available through Financial Institutions. The focus on demand side is lacking. Govt has to put money in people's hands. (2/n)
2. Govt can categorize sectors into 'minor affected', 'medium affected' & 'severely affected'. Help can be extend to a particular sector either in the form of financial or taxation or others forms based on the category under which a sector falls. (3/n)

SPECIAL REPORT: The White House budget office doesn’t know if the $2.2 Trillion-dollar #stimuluspackage and #Trump ’s $1,200 stimulus checks might cause an inflationary spiral. But many economists have no doubt it will.

President Trump’s stimulus checks will carry an inflationary cost many multiples more than their $1,200 value in the pre #coronavirus economic reality, which won’t become apparent until after the election in November.
#stimuluspackage #COVIDー19
To put the $2.2 trillion #CARESAct in perspective, the bill allocated a paltry 10 percent of the total ($250 billion) for direct individual assistance in a pie that was divided into hundreds of millions of recipients.

THREAD - Thoughts on the #StimulusPackage:

Some aides compared the lobbying frenzy around the stimulus bill to a gold rush. K street lobbyists played a major role in writing the bill, with some politicians even getting personal calls from CEOs of major companies.
Meanwhile, the accountability measures put in place are full of loopholes: Treasury Secretary Mnunchin can waive the stock buyback ban for certain businesses, & the bipartisan oversight committee of the corporate aid program lacks real enforcement power.
All of this points to the desperate need for tougher lobbying restrictions & strong anti-corruption laws to protect the American people, so that special interests can’t use a national emergency to push through their own agendas.

Robert Dohner, Senior Non-resident Fellow of The Atlantic Council, shared with us his observations on the recent market swing, #Fed's #MMLF and the US #stimuluspackage of $2 trillion dollars. mp.weixin.qq.com/s/C4HE1iudRsR0…
"This is a far-reaching crisis, and we are entering a global recession as deep as that during the 2008-2009 #GlobalFinancialCrisis, although with luck and good policy it may not last nearly so long. " Dohner said.
According to him, financial markets are also global, not simply in the fact that asset prices have fallen generally across countries, but also because liquidity strains in one market tend to draw funds from other markets.

Some people have asked for our comment on the #Treasury #EconomicStrategy document
There are two major issues: process and content.
I deal with these in turn.Note: these are not the official views of the @IEJ_SA 👇
Firstly on *process*
National Treasury has gone rogue...again
They have unilaterally published a policy document without engaging
👉government structures
👉ANC structures or
👉civil society (unless you count financial sector economists present at their colloquia).
Given that we are in a deep economic crisis, this Treasury unilateralism is highly irresponsible, as broad engagement on the *nature of the problem* is critical to coming up with *appropriate solutions*. But it now emerges that such engagement was totally absent.
