OK, so I attended the @streathamaction #streatham Wells LTN meeting last night, and whilst there have been a few comments swirling around on this platform, there's alot to be said about it. Buckle up, here comes a long 🧵
There were a lot of strong feelings at the meeting, and the headline figure is that 95%+ felt that the consulatation hadn't been done properly, and that residents feelings weren't fully taken into account. As the local councillors pointed out, it is too late for all that
as we have now passed the consulatation phase, and this is now all about the design. It has also been pointed out that councillors ran on an LTN platform, esp @StreathamLabour which has won the majority, so that is democracy in action. I think that whilst some will disagree

An absolutely shocking indictment of members leaving @UKLabour in droves.

This week #Streatham CLP will meet at a venue with a maximum 100 capacity.

1/
To put this into context, 3 years ago we were regularly filling the same venue for local branch meetings!

At the same time we were packing out large venues in #Streatham such as school and college halls with 500 to 1,000 capacity for our CLP Meetings.

2/
I clearly remember going to this same venue for my first #Streatham CLP meeting in 2013 when Chuka Umunna was our MP

There was approx 30 people there and I couldn't understand where all the young people were & only "delegates" got to vote on motions etc, others were shut out

Thread on the ongoing test & trace fiasco in #Streatham and beyond #TestingShambles 👇🏾

As #coronavirus cases increase locally (up to 36 cases in #Lambeth as of yesterday), more & more constituents are writing to me to complain that they cannot access testing. 1/6
One constituent writes to say they were sent to Romford to get a #coronavirus test for their child - a 3-hour round trip.

Another explains how he has tried without success to book a test for his wife. 2/6
Key workers are no exception to these issues either.

One teacher reports rising #coronavirus cases in their school among children, with teachers also unable to get a test.

A junior doctor reports they are having to self-isolate because their housemate cannot get tested. 3/6

The #Streatham attacker has been identified as Sudesh Amman. He was released a week ago after having served half of his sentence for Islamist related terrorism offences. Some thoughts below:
1. Sudesh was 17 when he started collecting terrorist material and attempting to radicalise others (including his girlfriend). He was caught on possession of bomb making material and other propaganda. He had sent extremist material on a WhatsApp group to his family.
2. This highlights some important trends which I have written about before. First, what powers do we have to monitor those under violent extremist concerns? What powers do we have to monitor this online? Sudesh was caught only under terrorist material possession in his home.

BREAKING: Man shot dead by police in Streatham had only been released from prison in the last few days after serving sentence for the possession and distribution of extremist material
Authorities had concerns about man’s behaviour, including language that suggested he continued to hold extremist views, but he had to be released under current laws
Whitehall source: ‘The public will look at this case and say why was this individual not kept behind bars and the Prime Minister shares that view' #Streatham

Awful to hear of #Streatham stabbings, which may be a terrorist attack though not confirmed.

Here is how to respond and not respond IMO.

a) Praise police, security and intelligence services who do heroic job and save many lives and stop many attacks but cannot stop all. /1
b) Do not engage in stupid conspiracies calling it a false flag

c) Do not as I have already seen blame it on #Brexit.

d) Do send thoughts and prayers to those who have been directly impacted by attack. /2
e) Do not spread and believe rumours about the #Streatham stabbings. Only share from verified and trusted sources, not a random @Twitter account or from trolls.
