If you want to become a better #structural #engineer, you should learn programming.
Knowing how to code can help you advance your career by improving yourself in the the following areas:

A.k.a. my top 10 reasons to learn #programming:
(6 "hard" + 4 "soft" skills)

A thread 🧵>
Soft Skills:
1./ The most obvious:
-- Problem solving --
Improve your problem-solving skills and logical thinking by learning to dissect more complex problems into smaller, more manageable ones, and tackling them one by one
2./
-- Communication and collaboration --
Learn to communicate your ideas more effectively to other professionals and teammates, by being able to break down more complex problems into smaller bites.

Good news from #Brussels
The leaked @EU_Commission non-paper on Emergency Electricity Mkt Interventions addresses the root sources of the 10-fold electricity price increase:
➡️Excessive profits of inframarginal technologies (nuclear, hydro, renewables)
➡️Gas scarcity

🧵 Thread
The proposals imply a big step #forward in our understanding of how #electricity markets should be designed
And watch out 🔊 because emergency measures pave the way to #structural reform!

Some key reasons & thoughts...
1/ Acknowledging that not all technologies should be paid at the cost of gas-fired generation is equivalent to acknowledging that:
📢 a single *technology-neutral* *energy-only* market design is not adequate – under emergencies & beyond

#PSX losing charm every passing day? Activity at the bourse says so…

Long 🧵, hopefully an interesting one.

With #PSX being in existence for a long time now, 🇵🇰 hasn’t really seen a pick-up in #investor base – or say has been seeing a downfall.

1/n
While in we are aware of lack of interest in equities, I did some working on turnover in PSX. It’s a disappointing one (see chart below). #PSX is trading $45mn p/d on avg. these days – just a notch above what we used to trade back in the end of 1990s. Yes, let that sink in.

2/n
While this is saddening, this shd be questioned! #Tech has picked up which shd hv made investors’ access easier; businesses are making money, thus attract investors; both buy & sell side of capital markets hv grown in size. Yet why have we only fallen down rather grow?

2/ what is the left atrial appendage?

The LAA is derived from the left wall of the primary atrium (embryo). Its diff from the true LA and its suited to function as a decompression chamber during left ventricular systole and during other periods when left atrial pressure is high
3/ the appendage is like your fingerprint. No two are the same.

Common shapes are:

🥦Cauliflower/Broccoli (hardest)
💨Windsock (easiest)
🐓Chicken wing
🌵Cactus

A short thread on a recent publication from @HiyaaLab, in Translational Psychiatry. The study shows that the dendritic structure & electrical properties of adult neurons in healthy brains depend on proactive regulation by the gene Tcf4, a high risk allele for #Schizophrenia.
1/7 Image
The #research reveals unexpected gene-networks, previously known to be involved in ciliary pathways, underlie #structural and #functional integrity of mature neurons in the healthy adult brain.
2/7
Given that the elaborate #dendrites & spines enable a neuron’s physical and electrical connectivity in a #neural circuit, alteration in the structure disrupts neuronal function, affecting the circuits and #cognition. 3/7

Counternarrative: I've been trying to distill my thoughts into words about #COVID19 and #Black #America. We would be complicit in #structural #racism to assume the cases & deaths look the way they do because we're "all not taking this seriously and playing basketball" 😑😒🙄 1/
Instead, historical social, economic, educational, health, etc. inequities brought us where we are. Yes, some Black and Brown people are "killing the game" and have "gotten ahead". But, many don't have the luxury to shelter in place/work from home. 2/
The alternative- be SUBJECTED to HUNDREDS (if not thousands) of exposures a day as an essential employee (e.g., nurse, doctor, cashier, driver, postal worker), riding public transportation, grocery shopping for family and/or neighbors, etc. 3/
