A look at the dismal living conditions of 8 lakh migrant loom #workers in #Surat, supposedly the 2nd cleanest city in India. After strenuous shifts, they stay in rotation in crowded rooms, amid power cuts, scarce water, filth & noise.ruralindiaonline.org/articles/livin… #SwachhSurvekshan2020 ImageImage
They live in 500 to 800-sq ft rooms, adjacent to the looms, each densely packed with 60-100 workers across two shifts. They sleep on worn mattresses infested with bed bugs. The blood of crushed bugs is visible on the grimy walls. There are termites & rats scurrying about too. Image
Each room has two toilets at one end that all the occupants use. The water for bathing, drinking and cooking comes from a common source. Supply is intermittent, and water is stored in a tank or plastic drum in most mess rooms, so the workers are unable to bathe every day. Image

Composting is nature’s way of recycling. Be it leftover food, dead leaves or vegetable peels, my home composting system ensures that nothing from my home goes to waste.

This low cost set-up helps me in putting waste to good use & acts as manure for our kitchen garden.
Home composting is my sustainable practice in ensuring a #SwachhBharat for us and our future generations. I implore others to join in as well.
I request JS-SBM Shri @Vinodkumarjin12 & my good friends @AfrozShah1 & @sudarsansand and Principal Secretaries of SBM from various states to share their #HamaraSwag practices.

The world’s largest sanitation survey, Swachh Survekshan, has always been a very unique initiative of my Ministry.
Since its very inception, cities have come up with countless creative ways to engage with their citizens and motivate them to participate in the survey. ImageImageImage
Madhya Pradesh, in particular, has been a trailblazer with several notable outreach initiatives. Their theme song for #SwachhSurvekshan2020, ‘Mera Madhya Pradesh’, roped in several famous faces to propagate the message of a Swachh Bharat.
Bhopal, for instance, has taken several enterprising steps to ensure maximum participation of their citizens. One such initiative is the city’s Swachhata Anthem, sung by the famous playback singer, @singer_shaan to boost the city’s #SwachhSurvekshan2020 chances.

Mitigating pollution & providing effective cleaning had been the priority for all municipal corporations & ULBs in Delhi.
I was delighted to flag off 6 mechanical road sweepers, 17 tractors with water tankers, 2 super sucker machines & 26 CNG powered trucks for the SDMC areas. Image
These will add to effectiveness in Swachhata activities & water sprinkling for making Delhi clean & pollution free.
My Ministry has provided an amount of ₹12.64 cr from Urban Development Fund (UDF) for these vehicles for attending to Swachh Bharat Mission. Image
I am happy that SDMC is making sincere efforts to procure the best quality machineries/ vehicles.
With the wholehearted efforts of ULBs & citizens, SwachhBharat has turned from a govt’s mission to a Jan Andolan. Image
