Wakenya, with few hours to go before we vote for our future, here's some more about the state capture, cronyism & investor shakedowns in the energy sector especially in wind power.

Vote wisely & break the yoke around your neck & mine.

2. As we queue for unga, remember that energy prices - bus fare, fuel, kerosene & electricity bills affect our cash flow and interferes with our ability to manage our household budgets & whether you will eat your ugali with mboga or nyama. Yaani kusukuma wiki.

3. Kinangop Wind Power was a 60 MW project in central Kenya. Hundreds of local farmers were set to benefit as the wind turbines were to be erected on their farms, and wayleave transiting the area would have seen these farmers get huge amounts 💵💵💵.

Nairobi Chapel South C @GowiOdera @OlungaOtieno invited @JerotichSeii and I to participate in their Sunday services. Power was available during the first service. During the second service, which is streamed live, @KenyaPower decided to strike. #switchoffkplc
It is was so precise. The power was there into the worship, then a few minutes before we were to speak, it went off.

It came back on when we were about to wrap up.

I know this government too well to believe in miracles. #switchoffkplc
Two days ago I was telling my students that these days, the system we are in sabotages Kenyans. GoK won't haul people to jail. They'll simply make things not work. Power will go, rooms will be unavailable, the person signing the cheque is sick, the policy isn't complete, etc...

Dear @RailaOdinga @WilliamsRuto:

What are your respective policy positions on electricity - the cornerstone of our economic growth.

2. Uhuru Kenyatta's talk of cheap electricity was, well, cheap.

This is the 5th year of the #SwitchOffKPLC campaign.

Do NOT vote for anyone who spews rhetoric but has no policy position on electricity whose bills loot Wanjiku's kibeti. #IfYouWantMyVote

Dear @CJMarthaKoome:

Be advised that your Deputy Registrar, Constitutional Division (Milimani), has repeatedly declined to sign our Petition 6 Notice of Appeal that #EnergyJustice6 filed on November 5th 2020.

We have been forced to write to @Kenyajudiciary

#SwitchOffKPLC
2. When Apollo Mboya secretly settled Petition 6 of 2018, he was awarded costs to be paid by @KenyaPower & @EPRA_Ke. This is in addition to an amount he allegedly received to kill the case focusing on the theft of OUR Sh10.1B by KPLC.

#SwitchOffKPLC
3. #EnergyJustice6 sought to revive the case in court because Apollo should not have settled it privately. This is about high bills, vendor cartels & thieves.

When denied yet again, we filed a Notice of Appeal on November 5th 2020. @CJMarthaKoome @Kenyajudiciary

A patriotic little bird whispered in my ear that apparently, power supply was almost cut off to @KenyaPower by a bulk supplier due to billions owed, & @StateHouseKenya had to intervene. Perhaps too that permanent & pensionable Management will be placed on contract

#SwitchOffKPLC
2. Still, @KenyaPower keeps opting for expensive electricity. Not to mention Sh150B stolen from itself. Watch your bills for fraudulent amounts & missing tokens. We are the last resort in KPLC's march towards default & insolvency.

NB: KPLC doesn't work alone.

#SwitchOffKPLC
3. I also understand that an extensive, formal complaint against [I can't say more] has been sent to @lawsocietykenya where I am listed as a witness. It is explosive & extremely detailed.

I am ready and willing to testify as required.

By June 2020, @kenyapower owed

-Sh23.7B to @KenGenKenya
-Sh19.48B to IPPs
-Sh4.67B to @KETRACO1

The electricity sector is a hotbed of theft. MES & #Covid19Millionaires look tame by comparison.

WaKenya could lose up to Sh6T!

2. Broadly, @KenyaPower owes Sh65B & anticipates Sh29.5B from consumers & the govt.

Q. How does a de facto monopoly FAIL to be profitable?

A.The trinity of generation+transmission+distribution/sale
is for the profit of a select, politically connected group.

#SwitchOffKPLC
3. Tariffs - under the corrupt & watchful eye of @EPRA_Ke - will remain high because parastatals & IPPs are OVERSUPPLYING electricity .

We pay for UNUSED electricity through rigged Power Purchase Agreements & yet more bleeding via the happily corrupt @KETRACO1.

2. Circa 2013-14, @MOH_Kenya envisioned a 7-10yr Public Private Partnership (PPP) to equip 94 Level 4 & 5 hospitals across 47 counties. This was approved on 22 Jan, 2014.

The PPP was ditched by June 2014 & an international Open Tender MOH/001/2014/2015 was launched.

#MAFyaHouse
3. As bids were submitted, the PPP under the Public Private Partnership Act, 2013 morphed into a Managed Equipment Service (MES) under the Public Procurement and Disposal Act, 2005 (repealed), now the Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Act, 2015. No justification.

Let me remind Kenyans that the separation between politics and development is a colonial divide.

The colonial administration divided the two to make African nationalists appear like people who just make noise and dont care for the people at all.

The devil is in the details.
The colonial administration believed that the purpose of colonialism was to "develop" Kenya and rescue us natives from backwardness by bringing us into global capitalism as wage laborers or resource harvestors and producers.
So colonialists divided Kenya into the urban & settler areas on one hand, and tribal reserves on the other.

They allowed wage labor on settler farms and in the cities, but used the provincial administration to prevent any political activity in the reserves.

WaKenya: Friday story.

Pres Uhuru went to New York for a meeting with then Pres Obama and other African leaders. On the sideline, he obtained the MES document from some corporations.

This Christmas you are broke because they stole your money.

WaKenya who trended #SwitchOffKPLC don't know that Rt. Hon. @RailaOdinga urged @MboyaApollo to meet with @ketercharles in 2018 to kill Petitions 6 & 59.

Resulted in a Sh75M handcheque (nego'd down from 300M)

WaKenya are very angry about the proposed 20% hike in electricity tariffs by @kenyapower.

Let's go back. You recall how people gloated at #SwitchOffKPLC when @EPRA_Ke reduced tariffs in Nov '18?

It was TEMPORARY.

2. This temporary relief expired in July '19. In any case, these tariffs were not graduated & came with crazy restrictions around consumption over a period of 3mths that saw electricity consumers playing mazzematics with their bills! Such confusion.

WaKenya: corruption in the energy sector often hides in plain sight; often appearing to be above board until you begin to piece together the political and business interests.

8,300 Kenyans own the same amount of wealth as the rest of us.

Let that sink in.

And these wealthy get tax exemptions, still our taxes, take loans for Kenyans to pay and then steal those too as we pay back the loans.

Let that sink in.
And then using the money they steal from us, they buy and compromise the media and the church, they conduct election campaigns, they pay foreigners to brainwash and polarize with lies, and then they get themselves "elected."

And the game of 8,300 vs 49,991,700 starts again.
So the one thing the 8,300 won't let us talk about is wealth. They fill the public space with noise. Kieleweke, tangatanga, Embrace, referendum, Competency-based curriculum, huduma namba, corruption court cases with no convictions...

Anything so we dont talk about the 0.1%.
